So “by end of day” generally means before 8 p.m.—but it is not a fixed appointment or a guarantee for every package. Your shipment’s tracking details and service commitment are more specific than the general hours.
What “by end of day” means
FedEx’s general guidance says a package marked “by end of day” should arrive before 8 p.m., when deliveries usually stop. That explains the usual meaning of the status; it does not override a service-specific commitment or a newer tracking update. Typical hours describe when deliveries generally happen, not an exact arrival time for an individual shipment.

What time FedEx Home Delivery arrives
FedEx Home Delivery does not have a fixed official delivery time. FedEx says the time depends on the package and destination, while noting that packages are typically delivered by 8 p.m. The two statements address different things: there is a usual outer expectation, but no set hour you can assume for every residential delivery.

Home Delivery is offered every day of the week. FedEx says it reaches over 98% of the U.S. population on Saturdays and nearly two-thirds on Sundays. These are FedEx’s population-coverage figures, not confirmation that weekend service is available to every address.
How to find your package’s scheduled date and estimated window
- Open FedEx Tracking and Managing Deliveries and enter the shipment’s tracking number.
- Read the scheduled delivery date and, if shown, the estimated four-hour delivery window.
- If you do not have a tracking number, FedEx says you may also try a door tag number, FedEx Office order number, reference number, or purchase-order number.
A four-hour window is not available for every package. If tracking does not show one, FedEx says the information may not be available for that shipment; the general 8 a.m.–8 p.m. hours cannot narrow it down further. Check tracking again for changes, since the shipment’s timing is specific to its progress and details.

Transit time is not an arrival-hour estimate
A transit range tells you how many business days a service typically takes, not what time of day a driver will reach your address. FedEx lists Ground Economy at 2–7 business days and Home Delivery at 1–5 business days; transit depends on shipping distance. Neither range provides an individual package’s arrival hour.

When the named service sets a delivery commitment
Some services have time-definite commitments, which are different from typical operating hours. FedEx 2Day is due by the end of the second business day, with morning or afternoon options and terms that depend on the destination. Overnight commitments also vary by the named service and destination. Check the service on the shipment and the applicable origin-to-destination terms rather than treating “by end of day” as the commitment for every shipment.

Does FedEx deliver on Saturday or Sunday?
FedEx’s U.S. guidance says residential deliveries typically take place on both Saturday and Sunday, except for expedited shipments. Home Delivery operates seven days a week, but Sunday coverage is not universal and the population-coverage figures do not establish availability at a particular address. Tracking the shipment is the practical way to see its scheduled date.
