Screen orders arrive on a separate Express Belt, while plates you finish go into a slot in the booth. Those two routes—along with plate counting—are the basics of how the system works.
What are the two ways to get food?

Kura describes the U.S. setup as a dual-layer conveyor: the main belt circulates prepared dishes, while the Express Belt carries made-to-order items from the kitchen. The screen is useful when you want something that is not currently passing by; the revolving belt lets you choose from what is already circulating. Kura does not say that one method is always faster.

How do you order at Kura Sushi?
- Choose a passing dish or open the tableside screen. Kura says the revolving belt carries dishes guests may select as they pass. Its FY2025 company filing describes the circulating selection as including sushi rolls, nigiri and desserts.
- Place an on-demand order on the screen. Items ordered there are prepared in the kitchen and delivered to your table on the Express Belt, according to Kura USA.
- Take your food and eat at the table. If a dish is on the revolving belt, lift its plate from the belt. Kura says a Mr. Fresh dome pops open when a guest lifts the plate.
- Put eligible finished plates into the booth slot. The slot is part of the table’s plate-counting system and connects to Bikkura Pon, Kura’s plate-based reward feature. You do not need a server to clear plates inserted in the slot, according to the company filing.
How does plate counting and Bikkura Pon work?
Kura USA’s FY2025 Form 10-K describes a system in which guests insert plates into the booth slot. In that filing, the Bikkura Pon feature plays a short anime video for every five spiral-green plates and gives a toy reward for every 15 plates. Treat those thresholds as the system documented by Kura USA for that reporting period, not as a guarantee that every restaurant currently has identical rules. Ask staff about the location’s current setup if the reward matters to your visit.

Where do special orders come out?
For Kura Sushi USA, orders placed on the tableside screen arrive on the separate Express Belt, which takes items from the kitchen to the table. This is distinct from the main revolving belt, where guests select dishes already in circulation.

How does Kura describe its freshness and tracking features?
Kura says its Mr. Fresh protective domes limit airborne exposure and are paired with tracking technology. Its FY2025 Form 10-K says an RFID system monitors dishes and a robotic arm automatically removes plates that have circulated for two hours. These are company descriptions of its system; they should not be read as an independently established food-safety outcome or as a rule for every Kura market and location.
Does the system work the same way in Japan?
Not necessarily. Kura Japan’s official feature page describes touch-panel notifications, including sound and visual alerts, and a rapid order lane. The page notes that some locations do not have that lane. Those Japan-market details should not be assumed to describe U.S. restaurants, whose documented flow uses the tableside screen and Express Belt.

What should you know about prices?
Kura USA’s FAQ says sushi plates are priced at a set price per location and that other menu items have varied prices. It does not establish one price that applies across all restaurants or dates, so check the menu or ask at the specific location rather than relying on a general figure.
