KODA’s developer says a fix for a script-truncation bug in version 29 led to a browser-based JavaScript runner: generated code runs in a hidden iframe with scripts enabled but without same-origin privileges. MDN confirms that this configuration gives the frame an opaque origin, which limits access to origin-bound data such as cookies and local storage. That is meaningful isolation, not proof that arbitrary AI-generated code is completely safe.
What changed in KODA v29
In a DEV Community post dated October 5, 2026, Harun says a bug that truncated a script prompted him to build a local runner so KODA could execute generated JavaScript. The post describes KODA v29 as a beta: JavaScript is available, while Python and TypeScript are marked “coming soon.” These are the developer’s descriptions; KODA’s code and behavior have not been independently inspected or tested in the available sources. Harun frames the goal as getting KODA to do more than write code: “i didn’t just want koda to write code. i wanted it to prove the code works.” The runner is presented as a way to try generated JavaScript in the browser rather than simply display it.
How the iframe sandbox works
- Put the generated code in a frame. Harun says KODA creates a hidden
<iframe sandbox="allow-scripts">for execution. - Allow scripts, but omit same-origin access. The
allow-scriptstoken permits JavaScript to run. Because the sandbox does not includeallow-same-origin, MDN says the embedded document is treated as having a special opaque origin and fails same-origin checks. MDN: <iframe> - Send output across the boundary. Harun says console output is sent back to KODA’s interface with
postMessage(). MDN documents this API for communication between window contexts that cannot access each other’s DOM directly. The specific messages KODA accepts and how it validates them have not been independently examined. MDN: Window.postMessage() - Remove the frame after a timeout. The post says the parent removes the iframe after three seconds. That is an author-reported implementation detail, not a browser guarantee or evidence that every hang or resource-exhaustion case is stopped.
What the isolation does—and does not—mean
An opaque origin restricts the frame’s access to origin-bound resources, including local storage and cookies. That is a real browser-enforced boundary, but “sandboxed” should not be read as “incapable of harmful behavior.” MDN cautions that sandboxing does not protect a site if potentially malicious content can be made to appear outside the sandbox, for example in a new tab. - Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
MDN also warns against combining allow-scripts and allow-same-origin for content from the same origin as the embedding page: scripts could then remove the sandbox attribute. KODA’s described configuration omits allow-same-origin, but evaluating the whole runner would require examining its actual code, message handling, and the ways content can be opened or displayed.
The three-second removal described by Harun is a useful limit in the implementation as reported, but the available information does not establish that it prevents all browser hangs, excessive resource use, or other failure modes. No independent security audit or exploit testing of KODA is reported.

Why KODA’s author says the runner is JavaScript-only for now
Harun says the product favors a small, fast JavaScript sandbox over adding a Python runtime. The post reports that KODA’s entire frontend, including the runner, is 92 KB and says adding Pyodide would add more than 10 MB. Those figures are the author’s claims, not independently measured bundle sizes or a verified comparison against a specified Pyodide build. The post also describes loading in under one second on a 3G mobile network as a product target or philosophy, not as a published test result. Pyodide documentation

What to make of “try breaking it”
Harun invites readers to try KODA and look for a way out of what he playfully calls the “ghost dimension.” In browser terminology, the relevant concept is the opaque origin created by the sandbox configuration. The invitation is not evidence of a completed security review: the post’s implementation and performance claims remain self-reported, and there are no independently published KODA audit results in the cited material.
If you experiment with the beta, treat generated code as untrusted and avoid relying on the sandbox as a guarantee that nothing harmful can happen. The browser mechanism limits particular kinds of access; it does not by itself establish the safety of the complete application or every path through which code or output may be presented.
