A VEIKK A15 Pro can appear in Linux input tools and still be unusable as a tablet: in this case, libinput rejected its stylus because the tablet’s X/Y resolution was reported as zero. A device-specific systemd hardware-database entry supplied usable axis resolutions, and the correction has since been merged into systemd’s main branch. That merge does not by itself mean the fix is in a released systemd version or in your distribution’s package.
Why the tablet was detected but not usable
The case involved a VEIKK A15 Pro USB drawing tablet, identified by USB ID 2feb:0006. USB and evdev detection were working: stylus events could be seen with evtest. But libinput reported: “VEIKK.INC A15PRO Stylus: libinput bug: missing tablet capabilities: resolution. Ignoring this device.” In other words, the input event node existed, but libinput did not accept it as a usable tablet.

The systemd pull request attributes the problem to axis metadata in the tablet’s HID descriptor. The descriptor used unit 0x33, which the pull request author decoded as cubic inches, alongside a physical maximum of 8000 for each axis. The kernel did not derive usable X/Y resolution from that representation, leaving both values at zero. The result was not a general USB detection failure; it was missing resolution information needed by libinput.
How to check whether this is the same failure
The original troubleshooting account used a sequence of checks to distinguish detection from tablet support. Device names and event-node numbers can differ on your system.

- Identify the USB device. Run
lsusband look for the VEIKK A15 Pro entry with ID2feb:0006. - Find its input event node and bound driver. Inspect the system’s input devices and identify the event node associated with the stylus. The case report also checked which USB driver was bound.
- Confirm that stylus events arrive. Run
sudo evtest /dev/input/eventN, replacingeventNwith the node you found, then move the stylus or press its buttons. Events show that the kernel input path is seeing activity; they do not establish that libinput accepts the device as a tablet. - Check libinput’s device list and logs. Look for the A15 Pro stylus and the missing-resolution message. That error is the key clue in this case; if it is absent, these steps do not establish the cause of your problem.
The device-specific hardware-database workaround
The local workaround described for this tablet adds its axis resolutions through systemd’s hardware database (hwdb). The values were calculated from the A15 Pro’s reported logical range of 0–32767 and its marketed 10 × 6-inch active area (254 × 152.4 mm): 32767 / 254 gives about 129 units/mm on X, and 32767 / 152.4 gives about 215 units/mm on Y. These figures belong to this model and its stated dimensions; they are not universal drawing-tablet settings.
For the reported USB device, the entry matched evdev:input:b0003v2FEBp0006* and set EVDEV_ABS_00=::129 and EVDEV_ABS_01=::215. The original report then reloaded the database and triggered the device:

- Add the matching hwdb entry. Use the match and axis values above only if the device is the A15 Pro with USB ID
2feb:0006. A local hwdb file is appropriate for a local override; consult your distribution’s systemd documentation for its supported file location and syntax. - Rebuild the hardware database. Run
sudo systemd-hwdb update. - Retrigger the input device. The case report used
sudo udevadm trigger /dev/input/event19. Your event node may have a different number, so substitute the node you identified rather than blindly triggeringevent19. - Check libinput again. Confirm that the resolution warning is gone and that the stylus is recognized as a tablet. In the reported setup, libinput accepted it and it worked in Krita.
Do not copy the match string or resolutions to another tablet just because it also has a zero-resolution error. The USB identity, axis range, and physical active area must support the values; the cited fix establishes only the A15 Pro case.

There is now an upstream systemd correction
Systemd pull request #43962, “hwdb: add resolution for VEIKK A15 Pro tablet”, was merged into systemd main as commit 7455546 on October 1, 2026. The change adds an A15 Pro-specific resolution entry, so a local workaround may no longer be needed once a systemd release containing that commit is installed.

The merge date is not a release version. The available evidence does not establish which released systemd version first contains the change, nor when a particular distribution will package it. Check your distribution’s package changelog or release notes before removing a working local entry. The patch author’s reported test environment was Arch Linux with kernel 7.1.5-zen1-1-zen, libinput 1.31.3, systemd 261 (261.2-1-arch), and sway 1.12; that report does not establish results for other combinations.
What this does—and does not—explain about Windows
The original author asked why the tablet worked on Windows. The account does not answer that question: it did not test whether Windows tolerates the descriptor’s unit representation or whether a VEIKK driver compensates for it. Neither explanation should be assumed from the Linux diagnosis.

Alternative if libinput still does not recognize the tablet
The original account also identifies OpenTabletDriver as an alternative path. The reported hwdb fix is specifically intended to let libinput accept this tablet by supplying axis-resolution metadata. If you choose a separate driver-based route instead, the cited account does not provide enough detail to compare setup steps or compatibility across systems. First confirm that your USB ID and physical tablet match the A15 Pro case before treating its hwdb entry as applicable.
