That distinction is the point of this project: its stated boundary was observation, not automated trading. The available documentation shows that some useful data can be accessed programmatically, but it does not establish which sources, assets, formula, or results this particular thermometer used.
What an hourly crypto market thermometer can—and cannot—tell you
A thermometer turns several measurements into a compact reading. For crypto, that reading might summarize conditions such as derivatives positioning, funding, price momentum, liquidity, or activity on-chain. It is a description of chosen inputs, not a diagnosis of the whole market and not a forecast.

The title’s “refused to let it trade” is an important design boundary: displaying a score and sending an order are separate functions. A dashboard can report measurements without having exchange credentials or order-execution code. The project premise does not independently establish how the software was implemented, so it would be inaccurate to claim that its code was audited or technically incapable of trading.

What hourly data can contribute
Open interest and funding describe derivatives conditions
Binance’s official USDⓈ-M Futures REST API documentation describes separate endpoints for funding-rate history and open-interest data. These are derivatives-market measurements: open interest concerns outstanding futures contracts, while funding rates relate to periodic payments between positions in perpetual futures markets. They can add context about positioning and funding conditions, but they do not represent every exchange, spot market, asset, or participant.

One documented hourly interval has a short lookback
Binance documents 1h as a supported period for its historical open-interest statistics endpoint. The same endpoint is limited to the latest month of data. That makes it an example of a documented hourly input, not evidence that this project used Binance or that its full indicator can be reconstructed over a long historical period from this endpoint.
An API does not prove an hourly refresh
Alternative.me identifies an API for its Crypto Fear & Greed Index on its index page. Programmatic access alone does not establish an hourly update schedule. Anyone using that index in an hourly display would need to verify its actual refresh cadence rather than label it hourly by assumption.

Why a single score depends on its inputs
Published sentiment indices illustrate how different measurements can be combined, but their methods should not be confused with this thermometer’s unknown formula. CoinGecko’s Crypto Fear & Greed Index description identifies dimensions including market structure, on-chain activity, liquidity and capital flows, and volatility and momentum. Its market-structure examples include perpetual-market funding, open interest relative to its recent average, and the spot/perpetual spread.

A composite score therefore reflects choices: which assets and venues count, how each input is scaled, how often it is refreshed, and how much influence it receives. Without the project’s formula and data history, no particular score, weighting, or interpretation can be attributed to this build.

How to evaluate a thermometer without mistaking it for a trading system
Before relying on any hourly indicator, inspect the following details. They determine what the reading actually summarizes and whether its cadence is meaningful:
- Cadence: Check each input’s documented update interval. A dashboard that recalculates hourly is not necessarily built from data that refreshes hourly.
- Lookback: Confirm how much historical data the source makes available. Binance’s cited historical open-interest statistics endpoint, for example, documents a latest-month limit.
- Market scope: Distinguish a measurement from one derivatives venue from a broader index that combines several dimensions.
- Interpretation: Keep positioning, funding, price movement, liquidity, and composite sentiment labels distinct; none is interchangeable with “the market.”
- Missing or delayed values: Find out whether stale data is flagged, excluded, or silently carried forward. The project’s handling of these cases is not established.
- Access conditions: Check current endpoint documentation for rate limits and other terms before building a recurring data pull; those details can change.
- Validation: Ask whether the score was tested against a defined outcome and over what period. No validation result for this project is established.
Why keep the thermometer separate from order execution?
A summary indicator can be useful for noticing a change in conditions, but an automated trade requires additional decisions: what action follows a reading, when it is allowed, how an order is sized, and how risk is bounded. A score alone answers none of those questions. Keeping observation separate from execution also avoids presenting a descriptive number as if it were a tested buy-or-sell signal.

The documented endpoints and index methodologies establish that relevant data and sentiment measures exist; they do not show that this project predicts prices, improves decisions, or avoids losses. Its exact inputs, refresh behavior, score, lessons, and performance remain unspecified.
