One Yahoo Tech headline reported a personal 6GB saving, but the figure is not a verified benchmark or a result every phone should expect. Before removing an app, check that its website supports the features you need and that important data and account access are safe.
How Hermit Lite Apps can reclaim storage
Hermit is an Android browser that packages a website for app-like access. You can select a preconfigured service from Hermit’s Library or create a Lite App from a website address. Hermit’s documentation describes Lite Apps as web apps that can also be accessed through other browsers; they are not converted into native Android APKs. Hermit’s getting-started guide explains the setup.

The storage reduction comes from uninstalling a native app after switching to its website—not from a sandbox setting. How much space you recover depends on which apps you remove and how much app data they have stored locally. The 6GB figure belongs to a first-person Yahoo Tech headline; the device, apps removed, measurement method, and data checks behind it could not be verified. Treat it as an individual report, not an expected result. Yahoo Tech’s article

Check before uninstalling a native app
A website may cover your everyday tasks but lack features available in its Android app. Work through these checks before removing anything you rely on:
#1 Best Overall
- YOUR CONTENT, SUPER SMOOTH: The ultra-clear 6.7" FHD+ Super AMOLED display of Galaxy A17 5G helps bring your content to life, whether you're scrolling through recipes or video chatting with loved ones.¹
- LIVE FAST. CHARGE FASTER: Focus more on the moment and less on your battery percentage with Galaxy A17 5G. Super Fast Charging powers up your battery so you can get back to life sooner.²
- MEMORIES MADE PICTURE PERFECT: Capture every angle in stunning clarity, from wide family photos to close-ups of friends, with the triple-lens camera on Galaxy A17 5G.
- NEED MORE STORAGE? WE HAVE YOU COVERED: With an improved 2TB of expandable storage, Galaxy A17 5G makes it easy to keep cherished photos, videos and important files readily accessible whenever you need them.³
- BUILT TO LAST: With an improved IP54 rating, Galaxy A17 5G is even more durable than before.⁴ It’s built to resist splashes and dust and comes with a stronger yet slimmer Gorilla Glass Victus front and Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer back.
- Protect your account. Confirm you know the sign-in details and can access the email address, phone number, or recovery method needed to regain the account.
- Check where your data lives. Verify that important content is synced to the account or backed up. Do not assume that uninstalling preserves locally stored downloads, drafts, messages, or settings.
- Create and test the Lite App. Open the service through Hermit and test the actions that matter to you, including sign-in, media playback, uploads, and password autofill.
- Keep the native app until you are satisfied. Once the website works for your needs and important data is safe, uninstall the native app using Android’s usual app settings. Check device storage afterward to see the actual change.
Hermit’s support information notes that it uses Android WebView, so some advanced site features may be unavailable. Login flows can also depend on popup or third-party-cookie settings, and some password managers may not work well. Test your specific sites rather than assuming every service behaves like its native app. Hermit’s FAQ
What Hermit’s sandboxes do
Sandboxes separate browsing sessions and profiles—for example, work and personal accounts on the same site. They do not clean storage, migrate app data, or enable ordinary Lite App creation. Hermit’s sandbox documentation says a default sandbox is available without the Premium sandbox feature; colored sandboxes are Premium. The page lists Android 9 Pie and above for the feature. Sites already isolate data by domain in a browser. Hermit’s separate sandboxes add separation between sessions for the same site, which can allow distinct logins. Two Lite Apps in one sandbox cannot maintain separate simultaneous logins to the same site. Conversely, related services that use social sign-in or single sign-on may need their Lite Apps in the same sandbox to share access.
Assign or change a Lite App’s sandbox
- Assign the desired sandbox in Hermit’s settings.
- Restart the Lite App.
- Swipe away existing Lite Apps from Android’s Recents screen.
- Reopen the Lite App from Hermit’s main list.
Do not confuse Data Saver with storage savings
Hermit’s Data Saver asks a website to return a smaller page. A site can ignore the request, and the feature does not compress all traffic or route it through a proxy. It is separate from reclaiming installed storage by replacing a native app, and it does not explain or guarantee a particular storage reduction. Hermit’s Data Saver documentation
