GM EVs have been able to use compatible Tesla Superchargers since September 18, 2024. For a CCS1-equipped vehicle, that typically means using a GM-approved NACS DC adapter; vehicles with a native NACS port can connect without one. The exact vehicle and station must be eligible, so check the GM brand app or Tesla app before setting out.
What changed—and when
GM announced access to more than 17,800 Tesla Superchargers on September 18, 2024, through a GM-approved NACS DC adapter and its vehicle-brand apps. That number was GM’s announcement figure at the time, not a current network count. GM’s launch announcement described app-based station lookup, status checks, session starts, and payment.

The access is not universal: the compatible vehicle and the individual Supercharger site both matter. Tesla’s current support information for other EVs lists GM among automakers with access, while noting that availability depends on the vehicle and site.

GM’s August 2026 overview said most 2026 model-year EVs still had CCS ports and needed an adapter. GM said it expected all 2027 model-year EVs across Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC to launch with native NACS ports. That was GM’s expectation in the August 2026 overview, not confirmation that every 2027 model had already launched. See GM’s EV charging overview for its model-year guidance.

How to start a session in the GM app
- In your Chevrolet, Cadillac, or GMC vehicle app, open Settings, select Public Charging, and activate Tesla Supercharger access. Chevrolet’s guide says to add a payment method during setup.
- Use the app’s station locator to find an eligible Supercharger and check its status before driving there.
- If your vehicle has a CCS1 port, connect the Tesla charging cable to the GM-approved adapter, then plug the adapter into the vehicle. A native-NACS vehicle connects directly.
- Start the session in the app and monitor charging there. The app workflow supports locating, starting, and paying for sessions at eligible stations.
Chevrolet’s public charging guide says app-based Tesla access has no monthly fee; customers pay for the energy used. Features and labels can vary by GM brand app.
Using the Tesla app instead
Tesla also supports charging for other brands through its app: add vehicle details, find compatible locations, add a payment method, and start charging. Tesla says no membership is required at Superchargers open to other EVs; a paid membership is available to lower prices at select sites. That membership is separate from GM’s app-based payment route. Check Tesla’s other-EV charging guide for site eligibility and current app details.

Which adapter works—and what it does not do
GM’s NACS DC Adapter, accessory part 85836744, is designed for NACS-equipped DC fast chargers. GM says it provides access to V3 and later Superchargers; use the vehicle-brand app to identify compatible stations. The Chevrolet Accessories listing states that the adapter is rated up to 500 amps and 1,000 volts. Those are adapter ratings, not a promise of the vehicle’s charging speed. GM’s adapter listing identifies the part.

GM states that damage caused by installing or using non-GM-approved parts is not covered under the vehicle limited warranty and may affect remaining coverage for affected components; warranty outcomes depend on the specific circumstances.

In June 2026, GM announced that its vehicle apps would bring network registration and payment together. At launch, GM named Tesla Supercharger, IONNA, and Electrify America; it described ChargePoint and EVgo as coming soon. GM also announced a later-2026 over-the-air update intended to enable Plug & Charge on its NACS-native EVs then on the road. These were plans in that dated announcement, not proof that each feature or network integration is now live. Details are in GM’s Energy Pass announcement.
