A defective unit qualifies for a full exchange within 15 days, or 30 days for GameStop Pro members. What those pages do not show is a separate long-term warranty included with every refurbished console. Any longer coverage appears to come from an optional protection plan sold as its own product.

The listing’s wording is: “Defective pre-owned and refurbished products qualify for a full exchange within 15 days, while GameStop Pro members get an extended 30-day window.” The help pages were updated on April 23 and May 26, 2026. The product page was observed on October 7, 2026. Terms and inventory can change, so check the live listing before you buy.

Is there a warranty on a refurbished console?
The reviewed pages establish return and exchange guarantees. They do not establish a universal warranty contract that covers every refurbished console after the exchange window closes. Treat two things separately:

- The Pre-Owned Guarantee is the refund and exchange window described above. GameStop says every used and refurbished product “undergoes a strict inspection and review process” and is tested for functionality.
- A product protection plan may appear on the product page as an optional add-on. It is a distinct product with its own coverage and terms. Read those terms before you count it as extra protection.
These sources don’t state how long any protection plan lasts or what it covers, so confirm that on the listing at checkout.

What if the console is defective?
- Test the console as soon as it arrives or you pick it up. Don’t wait until the 7-day refund window is nearly over.
- If it is faulty, you have the defective-exchange route: a full exchange within 15 days, or 30 days if you are a GameStop Pro member.
- Confirm your Pro status and the order’s terms. The listing doesn’t spell out every eligibility condition for the 30-day extension.
- Choose a return method (below) and keep your receipt or packing slip.
Returning the console
In store
Bring the item to a GameStop store. In-store purchases need a receipt. GameStop’s help page says in-store returns carry no return shipping fee. Eligible online purchases under $500 can also be returned in store with the packing slip.
By mail through the online returns process
Eligible online orders can be returned through GameStop’s returns process. The help page lists return shipping at $8.99–$14.99, which can reduce what you get back on a refund. Orders with digital content, Same Day Delivery, or Buy Online, Pick Up In Store can’t be processed through the standard returns portal.

If you live near a store, returning in person avoids the fee. It’s also the simpler path when you want an exchange.

Condition and what’s in the box
GameStop says pre-owned products may show normal wear and may not come with original packaging, manuals or accessories. The listing image may not show the exact unit you receive. Before ordering, read the included-items list for that specific console, such as controllers, cables and power adapters, because a missing cable is not necessarily a defect under the policy.

Comparing with another seller
Don’t assume another retailer matches these terms. Compare these points side by side:
- Refund days and defective-exchange days
- Any membership extension
- Whether protection is included or optional
- Return shipping cost and method
- Included accessories and stated condition
The GameStop pages above support each of these points. The reviewed sources do not cover order-specific exceptions, so your receipt and the listing in front of you take precedence over any summary.
