In EA SPORTS FC Ultimate Team, a Hero is a special player item, but the word “Hero” alone does not identify its version, rating, or upgrade path. Check the exact card in your current game: its displayed OVR, attributes, position and role fit, PlayStyles, chemistry indicators, and any campaign conditions determine what it offers your squad.
What is a Hero item in Ultimate Team?
A Hero is a special Ultimate Team player item. It may be a base Hero or a version tied to a particular campaign, such as a Prime or named campaign item. Those versions can have different designs, ratings, attributes, or conditions, so “Hero” by itself is not enough to identify what a card does.

Availability also depends on the content cycle. A version may enter or leave a pack pool as a campaign changes; check the item and current in-game pack information rather than assuming every Hero is obtainable the same way.

What does a Hero’s OVR mean?
OVR is a summary rating, not a complete measure of how useful a card will be for a particular squad or role. Compare the exact item version and its in-game attributes, position and role suitability, PlayStyles where shown, and chemistry indicators.

EA’s FC 26 ratings database covers launch Gold, Silver, and Bronze Player Items. It expressly excludes Heroes, Icons, Campaign Player Items, items added after release, and live form updates from other modes. A Hero missing from that database is therefore not evidence that the item does not exist. EA also says its ranking order sorts by OVR first, then uses subjective real-life performance factors rather than item attributes; that ranking is not a complete way to compare special items.
Do FC Heroes upgrade?
Some campaign items have specific upgrade conditions, but there is no single upgrade rule established for every Hero. Treat the conditions shown for a named campaign as belonging to that release, and check the current in-game objective before counting on an upgrade.

Example: UEFA Primetime Heroes
In its November 7, 2025 UEFA Primetime announcement, EA described a campaign path in which a qualifying Hero could receive +1 OVR for two wins in the next four matches. The article also listed Role++ and two base PlayStyles for four goals in the next four league matches. These were rules for that named release, not permanent requirements for all Heroes.

EA said new Base versions would enter the general player pack pool after that campaign, while Primetime versions would be removed from it. That was a time-bound content-cycle statement, not a lasting rule for every campaign.

Example: Prime Heroes
EA’s May 29, 2026 Prime Heroes campaign article promoted 32 Prime Heroes with exclusive key stats rated 99, alongside objectives, limited-time Hero loans, live events, Evolutions, and SBCs. The 99 rating described those campaign key stats; it does not mean that every Hero has a 99-rated stat or that the campaign is still active.
How does Hero chemistry work in FC 26?
The current FC 26 Hero chemistry rule is not established by the official sources cited here. Do not rely on older FUT chemistry explanations as confirmation of how a Hero works in FC 26. Check the chemistry indicators in your current squad or consult current EA documentation before building around a chemistry assumption.

How to compare Hero options
- Identify the exact version. Check whether the item is a base Hero, Prime Hero, or a named campaign version, and note its displayed OVR.
- Assess the role fit. Compare the item’s in-game attributes with the position and role you need; consider PlayStyles shown on that version.
- Check live conditions. Look for upgrade objectives or other campaign terms that actually apply to the item, and confirm whether they are still active.
- Inspect squad chemistry. Use the current in-game chemistry display rather than assuming a legacy formula.
- Verify availability. Check the current pack screen or campaign details; acquisition routes and pack pools can change.
What pack odds say about Hero availability
EA’s August 20, 2026 pack-probability explanation says Ultimate Team displays minimum probabilities for receiving one or more items in the listed category and rating range. A pack described as containing Gold Player Items may occasionally include active Hero, Icon, or Campaign Player Items.
EA recalculates probabilities after content updates, so use the probability shown on the pack’s in-game screen at the time you open it. Percentages in EA’s article are illustrative examples, not current odds for a particular pack.

Are Hero items needed for SBCs?
No general Hero requirement follows from the SBC system. EA Help says FC 26 Squad Building Challenges may specify Squad Rating, Chemistry, Player Quality, League, Nation, or Club requirements. A Hero’s usefulness depends on the live requirements of the specific challenge, not its Hero label.
