They are separate systems, and none should be confused with Rivals Rank or Elite Skill Rating.
FC 26 also changed how you qualify: Play-Offs were removed, Qualification Points can be earned from Division 7, and players automatically qualify at Division 6 once they have enough points. The details below reflect EA’s FC 26 launch update and its Champions Help guide, accessed October 9, 2026.

How does Champions matchmaking work?
EA says Champions matchmaking takes three factors into account: your location, your current Form, and your platform and cross-play settings. Location determines which EA SPORTS FC Game Data Center is used. EA describes the Form match as pairing players with others who have a similar Form. Its public guide does not specify a numeric Form range, guarantee an exact record match, or explain how a queue changes when there are few suitable opponents. EA’s Champions guide does not list squad rating or Rivals Division as Champions matchmaking inputs.
That is why a visible win-loss record on an opponent’s profile is not enough to establish how matchmaking selected them. Form is a running score, not simply a requirement that both players have identical records. Location and platform constraints are also part of EA’s stated system, while “similar” does not mean “the same.” This is an interpretation of EA’s published factors, not a separate promise about how any particular match was formed.

EA has not published the precise matching algorithm or the maximum difference in Form it will accept. A player therefore cannot use the public guide to calculate exactly which opponent they will face next, or infer from one uneven-looking matchup that the system ignores Form.
What is Champions Form?
Form is a competition-specific running win-and-loss score that EA lists as one of the matchmaking considerations. It begins at zero for the current competition. A win adds one point; a loss subtracts one. It is not a lifetime rating, a squad strength measure, or your Rivals Skill Rating.
How to calculate it
Track each result as +1 for a win and −1 for a loss. EA’s example sequence, W/L/L/W/W, works out as follows:

- After the first win, Form is +1.
- After two losses, it falls to −1: +1, then 0, then −1.
- Two more wins raise it to 0, then +1.
The final Form for that five-result sequence is +1. The displayed number summarizes the current run’s results using this scoring rule; it does not tell you the player’s total record across earlier competitions.

EA’s current Champions guide explains the reset in the context of the older Play-Offs path. Since FC 26 removed Play-Offs, it is clearer to treat Form as belonging to the current Champions competition rather than assume that the former Play-Offs stage is still part of the process. Does platform or cross-play affect who you can match?
Yes. EA includes platform and cross-play settings in its Champions matchmaking guidance. Cross-play must be enabled to match across supported platforms. EA groups PlayStation 4 and Xbox One together, and PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC together. EA says Champions cross-play does not apply to Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2.
These platform generations are not one unrestricted cross-play pool according to EA’s listed guidance. If you are trying to play across platforms, check that cross-play is enabled and that the platforms involved are in a supported group. A setting cannot enable cross-play for a platform EA excludes from Champions cross-play.

How do I qualify for Ultimate Team Champions in FC 26?
FC 26 no longer uses Champions Play-Offs as the qualification step. The launch update says players can earn Champions Qualification Points from Division 7 and automatically qualify at Division 6 once they have enough points. That is the FC 26-specific division rule; it replaces older descriptions of qualifying through Play-Offs.

EA announced removal of Play-Offs before launch, then supplied the Division 7 and Division 6 details in its FC 26 Launch Update. Its earlier FC 26 FUT Deep Dive said direct qualification would use a Rivals division and Qualification Points but left the exact division for a later announcement. EA’s general Champions Help page describes earning points broadly and does not state the FC 26 division gate. For that reason, use the launch update for the version-specific Division 7/6 rule and the in-game competition screen for your current status.
What Champions Qualification Points do
Champions Qualification Points, usually abbreviated CQP, are for entry progression. They are not the Form used in matchmaking and are not Finals rank points. EA Help says CQP can be earned in Rivals and Squad Battles, and that higher Rivals divisions earn them faster. The FC 26 launch update gives the division access rule but does not publish an exact CQP threshold, a complete points-per-match chart, or a fixed number of points for each activity.
Where to check your points and progress
- Open Ultimate Team.
- Go to Play → Core Modes → Champions.
- Check the Champions Qualification Points balance and the competition’s current progress display.
The in-game Champions screen is the practical place to check whether you have enough for entry and what applies in the current season. EA directs players to the live competition progress and rewards display because point thresholds and reward details are not fully enumerated in the general Help text.

Champions Finals has 15 matches, according to EA’s current Champions Help page. EA’s FC 26 Launch Update says Finals rank tiers expanded from 10 to 15. It also says every win counts toward rewards and identifies milestone tiers at 12 and 14 wins.
These figures describe Finals progression, not the matchmaking Form score. Winning a match can matter to both in different ways: it contributes to the competition’s results and reward progression, while the Form rule adds one to the current running matchmaking score. The 15-match format is the competition length; the 15 tiers are the reward-rank structure announced for FC 26.
EA’s published information here does not provide a complete current rewards table or all rank thresholds. Consult the competition’s in-game rewards screen for the live season’s exact rewards and requirements rather than assuming a previous season’s table still applies.

The phrase “rank points” is ambiguous in FC Ultimate Team. A useful way to tell which number you mean is to ask what it changes: access to Champions, matchmaking within a current Champions run, Finals reward progress, or the separate Rivals ladder.

The Champions entries in this table follow EA’s Champions guidance and FC 26 update; Rivals details come from EA’s separate Rivals guide. The distinction matters when someone says they have “points”: CQP helps with qualification, but it is not an in-match Champions rating, and Finals tiers do not describe the opponent-selection score.
How Champions differs from Rivals matchmaking
Rivals has its own matchmaking rules. EA says Rank is used as a matchmaking input in standard Rivals Divisions 10 through 1. In Elite Division, EA uses Skill Rating, which changes according to results and the rating of the opponent. EA’s Rivals Help page says a player entering Elite starts with a default 500 rating, and ratings of 2200 or above are treated as 2200 for matchmaking.
Those 500 and 2200 values apply to Rivals Elite, not Champions. They should not be used to estimate Champions matchmaking, where EA lists location, current Form, and platform/cross-play settings. Likewise, being in a particular Rivals division can matter to FC 26 qualification access, but EA does not list Rivals division itself as a Champions matchmaking factor in its public Champions guide.
What EA’s published rules do not tell you
EA’s public guidance gives the broad inputs and scoring principles, but not the full matchmaking algorithm. It does not state a numeric Form gap, say that opponents must have the same record, describe how the queue behaves when suitable opponents are scarce, or publish a squad-rating-based matchmaking rule. The absence of a detail from the guide is not proof about unpublished technical behavior; it means players cannot verify that behavior from the public rule alone.
