Independent Geekbench testing shows strong CPU results, but sustained graphics performance varies between the two phones—so the chip’s headline specifications do not tell the whole story.
A20 Pro specifications
Apple’s 2026 launch announcement describes A20 Pro as built using the latest 2-nanometer process technology. Its announced configuration is:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- CPU: 6 cores, with Neural Accelerators integrated into the CPU.
- GPU: 7 cores.
- Neural Engine: Dual 16-core design, or 32 total Neural Engine cores, for on-device AI and computational photography.
Apple does not state the chip’s transistor count, physical die size, clock speed or absolute memory bandwidth in the cited announcement. The 2-nanometer process describes its manufacturing technology; it does not, by itself, establish a particular clock speed or performance level. Apple’s Singapore newsroom announcement identifies the phones that feature the chip.

What Apple says is faster than A19 Pro
Apple claims A20 Pro delivers 50 percent more memory bandwidth, GPU performance up to 40 percent faster, and double the AI processing power compared with A19 Pro. These are Apple’s generation-over-generation claims; the announcement does not provide detailed independent testing methodology for them. Apple does not publish an absolute bandwidth figure in that release.

Apple also ties sustained performance to the phone’s thermal design, not just the processor. Its custom packaging places the silicon die side by side with memory, moving memory out of the chip’s thermal path and allowing attachment to a redesigned vapor chamber. Apple says the chamber has three times the surface area of the one in the iPhone 17 Pro generation and enables up to 40 percent higher sustained performance. That is a manufacturer claim, not a guarantee for every task or both phone models. Apple’s announcement describes the claimed design and gains.
A20 Pro benchmark results
Tom’s Guide published device testing on September 17, 2026. Its CPU results are close between iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. Keep the Geekbench versions separate: scores from Geekbench 6 and Geekbench 7 are not measurements on a single interchangeable scale.

| iPhone 17 Pro | 3,834 | 9,988 | 3,138 | 8,692 |
These are results for complete phones, not measurements of a standalone chip. In these tests, the two A20 Pro phones post very similar CPU scores, while both exceed the listed iPhone 17 Pro results. The table does not establish how every app or workload will perform. Tom’s Guide’s benchmark report provides the device results.
Why sustained graphics results differ by phone
A short graphics benchmark and a stress test answer different questions. A peak score or frame rate reflects performance in a particular run; a stress test examines how consistently a phone performs across repeated demanding runs. In Tom’s Guide’s 3DMark Wild Life Extreme Stress Test, stability was:

| iPhone 18 Pro Max | 79.4% |
| iPhone 17 Pro | 61.1% |
| iPhone 17 Pro Max | 65.2% |
The Pro’s reported stability is only slightly above the previous-generation Pro result, while the Pro Max shows a larger difference against the previous-generation Pro Max. These figures describe the specific phone models in this test; they should not be generalized into a single stability number for A20 Pro.
Tom’s Guide also reported 3DMark Solar Bay Unlimited results of 61.93 frames per second for iPhone 18 Pro and 67.9 frames per second for Pro Max. Those frame rates belong to that graphics test and do not measure sustained performance across all games or apps. The benchmark report includes its test results.

How to interpret the A20 Pro benchmark
- For CPU comparisons, compare the same Geekbench version and distinguish single-core from multi-core results.
- For graphics, check whether a result is a short-run score, frame rate or repeated-run stability figure.
- For sustained workloads, keep the exact phone model in view. The stress-test results differ between iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.
- For generation claims, distinguish Apple’s stated improvements from results measured by a publication on retail-style devices.
MacRumors reported earlier Geekbench 7 database entries on September 10, 2026, but described them as unconfirmed and cautioned that a one-off score does not show prolonged gaming performance. Those early entries are historical rather than a substitute for the later phone testing above. MacRumors’ early-results report provides that context.

Can you buy the A20 Pro chip by itself?
The cited Apple announcement identifies iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max as the devices featuring A20 Pro. It does not present the silicon as a standalone consumer product. If you are choosing a device to get the chip, compare those two phones; the benchmark evidence above shows why sustained graphics results should be considered by model, not inferred from the processor name alone.
