A July 2024 iPad Pro demonstration appears to use Fallout 2 Community Edition, a community-built reimplementation with an iOS version—not an official, one-tap iPad release. The documented route involves sideloading the app and copying in game files from a copy of Fallout 2 you own. Touch controls are available, but the game’s mouse-oriented interface can make precise actions awkward.
What the iPad Pro demonstration shows
A July 2024 post in r/iPadPro showed Fallout 2 running on an iPad Pro. Commenters pointed to Fallout 2 Community Edition as the likely way to do it. The post is a demonstration, not a repeatable compatibility test: it does not establish the precise iPad Pro model, iPadOS version or setup used.

Community Edition is a reimplementation intended to preserve Fallout 2’s original gameplay while adding engine fixes and quality-of-life changes. Its repository includes an iOS build and instructions. It is distinct from running a guest operating system or DOS emulator on the iPad.

- An iPad and a way to sideload an iOS app. The project names AltStore and Sideloadly as options, or you can build from source with your own signing certificate.
- A copy of Fallout 2 that you own. The project points to GOG, Epic Games and Steam as places to purchase it; Community Edition does not provide the game itself.
- Access to the game’s data files and a computer to copy them into the app using Finder or iTunes.
These are the project’s documented requirements, not a guarantee that a particular sideloading tool, signing arrangement or iPadOS release will work unchanged today.

How the documented iOS setup works
- Get the iOS app. Download
fallout2-ce.ipafrom the project’s release and install it with a sideloading tool such as AltStore or Sideloadly. Alternatively, build it from source and sign it with your own certificate. The repository describes sideloading; it does not say that jailbreaking is required. - Launch it once. The project says to run the app once so its file-sharing area becomes available.
- Copy in the game data. Connect the iPad to a computer and use Finder on macOS Catalina or later, or iTunes on Windows or macOS Mojave or earlier, to add
master.dat,critter.dat,patch000.datand thedatafolder to the app’s file-sharing area. - Check filenames if the files are not recognized. The README notes that filenames may need to be lowercase to match the app’s configuration.

Touch controls and display settings
Touch gestures
Fallout 2 was designed around mouse input, and some actions require accurate cursor placement. The project’s mobile controls use one finger to move the cursor, a one-finger tap for left click, a two-finger tap for right click or switching cursor mode, and a two-finger drag to scroll. The iOS instructions refer users to this same mobile-control guidance.

A Bluetooth mouse connected to the iPad is an optional alternative if precise cursor placement is frustrating; the project documents touch gestures and does not make a mouse a requirement.
Resolution
The repository advises setting the game’s resolution values to the tablet’s logical resolution. Its example for an 11-inch iPad Pro is 834 × 1194 points, corresponding to 1668 × 2388 pixels. That is an example in the project documentation, not a universal value for every iPad Pro. The README says the configuration must currently be edited manually.

Will it work on your iPad Pro?
The repository does not publish a current compatibility matrix covering iPad Pro generations and iPadOS releases. The July 2024 post supports the claim that one user demonstrated the game on an iPad Pro; it does not establish that every iPad Pro can run it or that the same steps work across current iPadOS versions. Check the project’s latest release notes and instructions for your setup, and treat any result as device- and version-specific.

For the method identified in the iPad Pro discussion, Community Edition is the relevant route: it is the project’s own iOS implementation. General-purpose emulation is a separate approach. For example, UTM’s iOS documentation describes UTM SE as an interpreter-based option for older operating systems such as DOS, with limitations. That is not the same as installing the Community Edition iOS app, and the available sources do not establish a head-to-head performance comparison.
