It does not currently establish a proven advantage in PvE or progression: NCSOFT enabled cross-faction PvE parties on March 11, 2026, while the official sources reviewed do not confirm faction-exclusive progression rewards, skills, or access. Choose by identity and community, not an assumed mechanical edge.
What choosing a faction changes
AION 2 offers two player factions: Elyos and Asmodian. NCSOFT says they begin in separate regions and describes the story as developing toward large-scale Realm-vs-Realm conflict. The game is set 200 years after the original AION, so older-game faction rules and assumptions should not be treated as current AION 2 mechanics. Your choice therefore matters for your character’s starting identity and for faction-aligned conflict. The official information reviewed does not establish that one faction levels faster, has better rewards, or enjoys a lasting population or combat advantage.

How faction choice affects PvP
Faction identity is directly relevant to some PvP. NCSOFT’s March 25, 2026 update introduced Chaotic Abyss battles between West and East Forces and said PvP and PvE damage calculations were separated in that update. Those are dated rules, not a guarantee that later patches have left formats or balance unchanged. Read the Chaotic Abyss update notice.

Do not assume every matchup is Elyos versus Asmodian
Official PURPLE Lounge guidance for the global-launch server lineup says Elyos and Asmodians are on separate servers, with Elyos servers paired to Asmodian servers for a limited time; cross-faction modes such as Spacetime Rifts and the Abyss draw opponents from the matched server. The page’s publication date was not established, and its lineup guidance should not be used to infer a current or permanent pairing. See the official global-launch server and matchmaking guidance.
Other formats have differed. NCSOFT’s February 23, 2026 update described Abyss of Chaos matches that could pit Elyos against Elyos or Asmodians against Asmodians, and reported a reduction in PvP ranking-point loss to encourage participation. Together, these notices show that match rules and pairings depend on mode and can change. Check current official notices rather than choosing a faction on the assumption that you will always fight the opposite faction. NCSOFT’s February 23 update notice.

Season 2 material also described changes to Abyss encounters and Artifact Siege, including faction-wide buffs intended to help counter power disparities. That is evidence of evolving balance and content rules, not a basis for a current faction ranking. See the Season 2 update notice.
Can Elyos and Asmodians play PvE together?
Yes, according to NCSOFT’s March 11, 2026 update: from that date, Elyos and Asmodians could form cross-faction PvE parties for dungeons and party play, with limited cross-faction communication in those settings. Because this is a patch-dependent rule, check current notices if you are organizing a group. Read the March 11 update notice.

NCSOFT’s notices describe a range of PvE content, including the Expedition dungeon Dying Dramata’s Nest, Nightmare bosses, Raid and Ascension Trial dungeons, and the Cradle of Nihility Expedition. These examples show that content and systems evolve; they do not indicate that one faction has exclusive access or a PvE advantage. Season 2 content notice and February 11 Expedition update.
Does faction choice affect progression?
The available official notices do not settle whether the current global build has faction-exclusive skills, rewards, quest chains with lasting progression consequences, or access restrictions. That leaves the comparison open; it is not proof that progression is identical or that faction is mechanically irrelevant.

NCSOFT has described progression-adjacent systems and currencies, including Kina (Bound) from quests and Duty rewards, NPC shops, Sealed Dungeons, and Strongholds, as well as regular Kina from player trading, monster hunting, and Odyle Energy Cubes. The same March update that discussed Kina also separated PvP and PvE damage calculations. None of those details establishes an Elyos or Asmodian progression edge. See NCSOFT’s March 25 update notice.

- For identity and starting experience: choose the faction whose identity and starting region appeal to you; the official overview confirms separate starting regions but does not establish regional advantages.
- For PvP: choose the side you want to represent, but treat mode formats and server matchups as changeable rather than permanent.
- For PvE with friends: the March 11, 2026 update enabled cross-faction PvE parties, so faction choice did not prevent those groups under that documented rule.
- For progression: do not pick based on claims of a faction-exclusive advantage unless a current official guide or patch note confirms it.
No official population or win-rate figures in the sources cited here support recommending Elyos or Asmodian as objectively stronger. If community is your deciding factor, coordinate with the players or guild you want to join and verify current server rules before committing.
