Epic calculates tournament performance ratings, adjusts them for event weight and age, counts a player’s best 20, combines them over time, and adds bonuses for Battle Royale Ranked and Reload Ranked rank.
What Epic’s official PR measures
Epic describes PR as an Elo-style rating of a player’s best tournament performances. It is distinct from third-party leaderboards that use “PR points” or seasonal placement totals. Check which system a leaderboard means before comparing scores. Epic says its rating can be used for tournament eligibility and perks, but specific requirements depend on current event rules.

The public guide outlines the stages but does not publish a complete equation that lets players calculate an exact score from a finish alone. The numbers below explain the published mechanics, not a guaranteed placement-to-score conversion.
How Epic calculates tournament performance
1. Rate the finish against the field
Epic’s raw performance rating depends on the player’s finish relative to the field and on opponents’ ratings. Its simplified example for a 1,000-duo event assumes most competitors have ratings near 20,000: 100th corresponds to 23,000, 500th to approximately 20,000, and 900th to 17,000. These are illustrations under that assumption, not universal values for those placements. Epic says its multiplayer Elo calculation weighs the player separately against opponents and their ratings.

That is why the same placing need not produce the same raw rating in two events: the rating of the field matters as well as the finish.
2. Apply the event multiplier
Epic multiplies the raw performance rating by an event weight. Its guide lists these categories and multipliers; formats and labels can change, so consult the guide for the current season.

So a higher finish is not automatically the higher-rated performance: the event multiplier can also change the result.
3. Reduce older performance ratings through decay
Epic’s guide says performance ratings are retained at 100% for 0–180 days; decay begins at 180 days, and a rating reaches zero at 720 days. These are the guide’s stated timing points. It does not provide enough detail to infer a precise decay calculation for every day between them.

4. Count only the best 20 results
Only a player’s top 20 tournament performance ratings count. A new result replaces one already counted only if its rating is higher. A result below the current top-20 cutoff does not affect PR, so simply entering more events does not guarantee an increase.
5. Combine counted results Elo-style
Epic says new results can add PR while decay in older results can reduce it. Its public guide does not disclose a complete equation or sufficient algorithmic detail to reproduce an exact total independently.

How Ranked bonuses affect PR
Epic adds rank-based bonuses from both Battle Royale Ranked and Reload Ranked. The guide’s displayed range runs from 0 at Bronze 1 to 1,000 at Unreal; listed examples include 400 for Elite 1 and 600 for Champion 1. The bonus from each Ranked mode is added on, so identify whether a score includes these bonuses when comparing totals.
Why PR can change—or stay the same
- It went down: decay in older results can reduce the combined rating, even without a new tournament result.
- It did not move after an event: the new performance may not have rated higher than any result in the player’s counted top 20.
- A placement seemed unusually valuable: the opponent field’s ratings and event multiplier affect the performance rating; placement alone is not enough to predict PR.
- Two leaderboard totals differ: check whether both show Epic’s official PR, which region they represent, and whether Ranked bonuses are included. Third-party placement-point totals use different terminology and are not the same calculation.
How to compare two PR performances fairly
When judging one tournament result against another, compare the finish and opponent ratings, event multiplier, result age and resulting decay, and whether the performance makes the player’s best 20. For overall PR comparisons, also confirm region and whether both Battle Royale Ranked and Reload Ranked bonuses are included. PR is Epic’s rating system, not a context-free measure of who is best across every region and competitive setting.
