How Does the Shark Matrix Plus Map and Clean a Home?

The Shark Matrix Plus maps through an app-guided Explore Run. Learn how to prepare the home, use the map for cleaning, and set up carpet avoidance before mopping.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Shark Matrix Plus creates its first home map through an app-guided Explore Run. Set up the robot in SharkClean, fully charge it, open the interior doors you want it to explore, and clear cords and small objects from its route. Keep the robot and dock in place while it runs. After a map is created, the app can be used to target rooms or spots, schedule cleaning, and set no-go or carpet zones. For mopping, the RV2600WA guide requires an Explore Run with the pad plate removed, followed by carpet-zone setup and verification before a mop run.

Which Shark Matrix Plus models does this mapping guide cover?

The steps here are based on the Shark Matrix Plus 2-in-1 RV2600WA Series Owner’s Guide. Shark’s product listing identifies a related Matrix Plus 2-in-1 Self-Empty XL model as RV2610WA. These identifiers refer to the same product family, but a model suffix can matter for instructions, replacement parts, and app prompts. Check the label on your robot and use the guide that matches the exact model before following model-specific directions or buying accessories.

Shark describes the Matrix Plus as using 360-degree LiDAR mapping and app-based cleaning controls. That is the manufacturer’s description of the product; it is not a guarantee that every room will be mapped completely or that every cleaning run will cover every surface. The initial Explore Run is the step that creates the map the app can then use.

How do I get my Shark Matrix robot to map the house?

Complete device setup in the SharkClean app and use its prompts to start an Explore Run. The RV2600WA Owner’s Guide describes Explore Run as the robot’s way to create an initial map after setup. It is a mapping trip, not a promise that the robot will clean the whole home or produce a perfect map in one attempt.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  1. Finish app setup. Follow the device setup instructions in SharkClean and place the robot on its base. Use the app’s instructions for the initial Explore Run; app labels or screen layouts may vary with software version.
  2. Charge before the first run. The Owner’s Guide advises fully charging the robot before its first cleaning so it can explore, map, and clean as much of the home as possible. The guide says a full charge may take up to six hours. That is the guide’s stated maximum, not a guarantee for every battery or charging condition.
  3. Open the route. Open interior doors to rooms you want included in the map. The robot cannot explore a room it cannot enter during its run, so a closed door can leave that area out of the initial map.
  4. Clear small obstacles. Remove cords and small objects under 4.5 inches high from the floor along the route. Shark’s guide gives that clearance recommendation; it does not mean every object above that height is safe to leave in the robot’s path.
  5. Start Explore Run in the app. Follow the SharkClean prompts to launch the mapping run. Allow the robot to move through the accessible areas instead of relocating it or its base during the run.
  6. Use the resulting map in the app. The guide describes room and spot selection, scheduling, no-go zones, and carpet zones as app functions. Choose the relevant control shown in your installed version rather than relying on labels from another app release.

Shark’s guide says the robot uses sensors to navigate. For a more complete initial map, make the desired route accessible and let the robot continue from its dock. Moving the robot or base during cleaning can interfere with navigation; the guide warns that moving the dock may mean remapping is needed.

What should I do before the Explore Run?

Think of the first run as an opportunity to expose the robot to the floor plan it will need to navigate later. Preparation is mostly about access and avoiding interruptions, not drawing a map by hand.

  • Decide which rooms should be available. Open doors to the rooms you want the robot to explore. If a room is deliberately off-limits, keep it inaccessible or plan to use a no-go zone after mapping.
  • Clear loose items from its path. Pick up cords and small objects under 4.5 inches high, following the clearance guidance in the RV2600WA Owner’s Guide.
  • Leave the dock where it is. Choose a location before the run and do not move the base while the robot is cleaning. A dock change can disrupt navigation and may require remapping.
  • Charge first. A full initial charge gives the robot the opportunity to explore and map as much of the home as possible, according to the guide.
  • Plan around thresholds and stairs. The guide says the robot can cross most thresholds. If a threshold cannot be crossed safely, exclude that area with a no-go zone. Follow the guide’s specific instructions for rugs and runners near stairs rather than assuming every edge is safe.

Preparation cannot guarantee that every corner will appear in the map. A shut door, an inaccessible route, or a navigation interruption can limit what the robot reaches during that run. The guide’s instruction is to conduct Explore Run to create an initial map; it does not say that one run will always map every layout perfectly.

How do I use the map after the robot has explored?

Once the app has a map, select the cleaning task that fits the job. The controls described in the owner’s guide are not interchangeable: whole-home cleaning starts a broader run, while Matrix Clean can direct the robot to a selected room or spot. Scheduling sets a time for cleaning, and no-go or carpet zones define places to avoid for the relevant use.

Task How to start it Best suited to
Whole-home vacuuming Press CLEAN on the robot or start cleaning in the app. A general run through the accessible home.
Room or spot Matrix Clean Select a room or spot on the map in the app. Directing cleaning to a particular mapped area instead of requesting a whole-home run.
Manual spot clean Place the robot at the spot and hold CLEAN for five to seven seconds, as described in the RV2600WA guide. An approximately five-by-five-foot area; confirm the control for your exact model and app version.
Scheduled cleaning Set a schedule through the app controls described in the guide. Starting cleaning at a chosen time rather than manually launching that run.

For whole-home cleaning, the guide describes a pattern that begins with perimeter cleaning and then proceeds in rows. A room or spot selection is useful when the job is limited to one area; it does not replace the initial mapping step. If the map or app offers different wording from the guide, follow the controls shown for your installed app and model.

How do no-go zones and carpet zones differ?

No-go zones

A no-go zone marks an area the robot should not enter. The guide recommends using no-go zones for places where the robot should stay out, including an area it cannot cross safely. This is the appropriate control for excluding a location rather than expecting the robot to navigate a difficult threshold or hazard.

Carpet zones

Carpet zones are especially important when using the robot to mop. The RV2600WA guide directs users to configure Carpet Zones and run Carpet Verification so that carpeted areas are avoided in mop mode. The guide distinguishes this setup from general mapping: an initial map alone is not the full preparation for mopping.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Current app screens can change, so use the zone controls and verification prompts shown in SharkClean. Do not assume that a zone configured for one purpose is a substitute for the other; use a no-go zone to keep the robot out of a place, and configure and verify carpet areas as instructed for a mop run.

What has to happen before the Shark Matrix Plus mops?

The RV2600WA Owner’s Guide specifies a prerequisite: complete the Explore Run with the pad plate removed. Only after that mapping run should you prepare the robot for mopping. The required order matters because the map is created before the mop setup is attached.

Why might the map be incomplete or navigation go wrong?

The owner’s guide does not promise a perfect map from one run. Before trying again, check whether the robot could physically explore the rooms you expected it to reach and whether the base stayed in its original position.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • A room is missing: Check whether its door was open and whether a clear route connected it to the robot’s starting area. The initial map reflects the areas the robot can explore during the run.
  • The robot seems disoriented after a base move: The guide warns that moving the dock can interfere with navigation and may require remapping. Return to the app’s mapping instructions for your model.
  • An area is unsafe or inaccessible: Do not rely on the robot to cross a threshold it cannot safely handle. Use a no-go zone to exclude that location.
  • The robot encounters small floor clutter: Remove cords and small objects under 4.5 inches high before a run, as the guide advises.
  • A mop run risks carpet: Confirm the carpet zones have been configured and Carpet Verification completed. Also remove rugs or mats that block the intended mopping route.

If an app prompt or control differs from the guide, prioritize the instructions shown in the installed SharkClean app and consult the owner’s guide for the model printed on the robot. Do not assume an instruction for RV2600WA applies unchanged to every suffix in the product family.

Does Matrix Clean mean the same thing as mapping?

No. Explore Run creates the initial map; Matrix Clean is a cleaning option the guide describes for selecting a room or spot after a map exists. The product page describes Matrix Clean as part of the robot’s cleaning controls, but that feature name does not replace the app-guided mapping run. A manual spot clean is another distinct option: the RV2600WA guide says to place the robot at the spot and hold CLEAN for five to seven seconds for an approximately five-by-five-foot area. Confirm this control on the exact model and app version before relying on it.

What to remember before the first clean

Start with the right model guide, finish SharkClean setup, charge the robot, open the rooms it should explore, and clear the floor. Run Explore Run with the pad plate removed if you intend to mop later, and leave the dock in place. Afterward, use the map to choose a whole-home run, a targeted room or spot, a schedule, or zones appropriate to the job.
