To turn on a configured NUC, connect the power adapter specified for its exact model to a working outlet, then press the power button on the chassis once. If it does not start, first distinguish a no-power problem from a blank display or a missing boot drive; each points to different checks.
Before turning on your NUC
Find the complete model number and product code on the underside label or in your purchase records. NUC models differ in adapter requirements, port locations, startup prompts, and troubleshooting procedures, so use the manual and support information for your exact unit. Intel’s NUC12WSK user guide is an example for that kit family, not a universal NUC manual.

- Place the computer on a stable, hard surface and keep its ventilation openings clear.
- If you have a barebone kit, confirm that the compatible memory and storage required by the model are installed and seated. For example, Intel’s NUC12WSK guide covers SO-DIMM memory and M.2 SSD installation for that family.
- Check the model documentation and package to confirm the correct power adapter and whether an AC cord is included. Some NUC12WSK product codes omit the cord; the adapter described in that guide uses a C5 connector. Do not assume every NUC needs a separate cord.
How to turn on a NUC
- Connect the AC cord to the compatible power adapter, then connect the adapter to the NUC and a working outlet.
- Connect a monitor and, if needed, a keyboard.
- Press the chassis power button once and wait for the manufacturer logo, firmware screen, or operating system to load. The startup display and any key prompts depend on the model and configuration.
If the NUC power button does not work
No lights or other response
Check that the adapter connections are firmly seated and test the outlet with another device. Verify that the adapter is specified for your exact NUC model. Intel’s NUC laptop-kit no-boot/no-power guidance includes trying another power supply, memory, or SSD as possible diagnostic checks. These are model-dependent service steps, not a general instruction to open a NUC or swap parts; consult the model’s documentation or manufacturer support before substituting components.
Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down

Treat this as a no-display symptom rather than assuming the computer has no power. Check the monitor input and video cable, then consult the LED guidance for your model. In Intel’s no-boot/no-power article, three repeated power-button LED blinks indicate checking memory installation and the module or slot. A steady LED calls for checking the cables or monitor and memory; BIOS recovery is also listed. Those patterns and steps are not universal to every NUC.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The NUC reports that no bootable device was detected
Check the BIOS Boot Order for the SSD. If no boot drive appears, the drive may have failed; if the message occurs on the first boot, check that the drive is fully seated. Follow the applicable steps in Intel’s no-boot/no-power guidance and your model’s manual.
It will not restart after Windows shutdown
For the specific supported Intel NUC symptom where the power button stops responding after Windows shuts down and the unit must be unplugged and reconnected, Intel recommends disabling Windows Fast Startup: open Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do. This is a targeted fix for that shutdown-related behavior, not a general remedy for unrelated power failures. See Intel’s support guidance for applicability.

Entering BIOS Setup
On Intel NUC systems, press F2 during startup to open BIOS Setup. If the key is missed or ignored, try a wired keyboard: Bluetooth may not be available before the operating system loads. If a wired keyboard is not detected on a front USB port, try a rear port. If you are using a USB monitor, temporarily connect an HDMI or DisplayPort monitor to view startup prompts. Consult your model’s documentation for exact behavior.
Intel also documents a Power Button menu for the products covered by its laptop-kit support article: with the NUC off, hold the power button for about three seconds, release it, then use F2 to enter setup. This path is product-specific; check the exact model instructions before using it. See Intel’s no-boot/no-power article.

Choosing a cord or replacement part
Only buy a cord or component after checking the full product code and the relevant electrical or compatibility specifications. For the NUC12WSK kits whose product codes omit the regional AC cord, Intel identifies a C5 connector on the adapter; verify the wall-plug standard for your region as well. A replacement adapter should match the exact model’s requirements. Memory and SSD compatibility also vary by model, and an upgrade is not necessary simply to turn on a fully configured NUC.
If the external checks do not resolve the problem, use the manufacturer’s troubleshooting instructions for the exact model. BIOS recovery, hardware substitution, and other service procedures can vary, so do not apply steps from a different NUC family without confirming they fit your unit.
