The 2024 CORSAIR RM850x is an 850W, fully modular ATX 3.1 power supply with a native 12V-2×6 GPU cable. It is a sensible candidate for a build that needs those capabilities, provided its 160 mm length fits your case and its current local price compares well with other 850W units. Check the exact model generation before buying: older products and listings also use the RM850x name.
Which RM850x is this review about?
This is the refreshed 2024 RM850x, not every power supply sold under the RM850x name. CORSAIR identifies the worldwide version as SKU CP-9020270-WW. Regional SKUs and bundles can differ, so check the listing’s exact SKU and included cables against CORSAIR’s product specifications before ordering.

CORSAIR announced the refreshed RMx family on September 10, 2024, with ATX 3.1 compliance, a native 12V-2×6 connector, a manual fan override knob, and fully modular embossed cables. The family includes 750W, 850W, and 1000W models. This review concerns the 850W model, not the entire range. CORSAIR’s announcement describes the redesign; its performance statements are the manufacturer’s, not independent test findings.

Check both PSU length and the space needed to route cables in your case. The unit is 160 mm long, and a tight cable-management area can make installation harder even when the case technically supports that PSU length. Connector inventory is useful when planning multiple CPU power leads, graphics-card plugs, drives, and accessories, but confirm the exact regional listing’s bundle rather than assuming every listing includes the same items.
#1 Best Overall
- Fully Modular: Reliable and efficient low-noise power supply with fully modular cabling, so you only have to connect the cables your system needs.
- Cybenetics Gold-Certified: Rated for up to 91% efficiency, resulting in lower power consumption, less noise, and cooler temperatures.
- ATX 3.1 Compliant: Compliant with the ATX 3.1 power standard from Intel, supporting PCIe 5.1 and resisting transient power spikes.
- Native 12V-2x6 Connector: Ensures compatibility with the latest graphics cards with a direct GPU to PSU connection – no adapter necessary.
- Embossed Cables with Low-Profile Combs: Sleek, ultra-flexible embossed cables look great and make installing and connecting the RMx a breeze.
CORSAIR also specifies Japanese electrolytic capacitors rated for 105°C and output rated at a 50°C ambient temperature. These are manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee of a particular unit’s service life. CORSAIR lists a 100,000-hour MTBF; that reliability metric should not be read as a promise that an individual PSU will operate for that duration.
Will 850W power your CPU and GPU?
The RM850x provides 850W continuous output, but the wattage printed on a PSU does not by itself determine whether it suits a specific build. Check the power guidance for your graphics card and processor, account for the rest of the system, and consider the intended workload and any planned upgrades. The available product and review information does not establish a universal CPU-and-GPU combination that this unit can safely power.
Its native 12V-2×6 cable and ATX 3.1 / PCIe 5.1 support make the 2024 model a relevant option for a compatible newer graphics card. Confirm the GPU’s required connector and the PSU’s included cable before purchase; do not assume that the presence of a 12V-2×6 cable alone settles the wattage question for every system.
Rank #2
- Fully Modular PSU: Reliable and efficient, low-noise power supply with fully modular cabling, so you only have to connect the cables your system build needs.
- Intel ATX 3.1 Certified: Compliant with the ATX 3.1 power standard, supporting PCIe 5.1 platform withstands 2x transient power excursions from the GPU.
- Keeps Quiet: A 120mm rifle bearing fan with a specially calculated fan curve keeps fan noise down, even when operating at full load.
- 105°C-Rated Capacitors: Delivers steady, reliable power and dependable electrical performance.
- Modern Standby Compatible: Extremely fast wake-from-sleep times and better low-load efficiency.
Efficiency and noise: ratings versus review measurements
Cybenetics ratings are not a promise that every computer will operate at a fixed efficiency or noise level. In its September 14, 2024 review, updated September 28, 2026, Hardware Busters lists the RM850x as Cybenetics Gold, with 87–89% efficiency at 115V and 89–91% at 230V, and Cybenetics A for noise at 20–25 dB(A). These are the review’s certification figures, not measurements guaranteed for every build or operating condition.
TechPorn’s review of a 2024 sample, which discloses that CORSAIR supplied the sample, reports 90.9% efficiency at 230V. TechPorn also reports Zero RPM operation up to roughly 50% load, noise at or below 32 dBA through most of its tested load range, tight voltage regulation, and low ripple/noise. These are that publication’s results under its test conditions. The 90.9% figure and the Cybenetics efficiency ranges come from different contexts and should not be combined into a single universal result.
What independent reviewers found
Hardware Busters provides separate testing and discussion of load regulation and ripple, transient response, hold-up time, efficiency, protection, noise, and overall performance. Its review identifies Channel Well Technology (CWT) as the OEM and describes a single 12V rail with 849.6W available on that rail, 150W combined on 3.3V and 5V, and 15W on 5VSB. Those are review-listed specifications and findings, not hands-on results from this article.
Rank #3
TechPorn’s reported results are also positive, including tight regulation, low ripple/noise, and quiet measured operation through most of its tested range. CORSAIR supplied that review sample, as TechPorn discloses. Neither review’s results mean that noise, efficiency, or electrical behavior will be identical in every PC; load, mains voltage, ambient conditions, and test methods matter.
Modular cables, compatibility, and warranty
Fully modular cabling lets you attach only the leads your build needs, but PSU-side modular cables are not generically interchangeable. If replacing a cable or buying custom sleeved leads, verify CORSAIR Type 4 compatibility and confirm the exact PSU and cable set. A plug that physically fits is not enough to establish correct wiring. CORSAIR says its Premium Individually Sleeved Type 4 PSU cables are sold separately.
CORSAIR lists a 10-year warranty for the RM850x. Warranty terms and coverage are regional, so consult the applicable local terms before relying on coverage details; the published duration alone does not establish every region’s conditions.

- 80 PLUS GOLD CERTIFIED
- 10-year limited warranty, guaranteeing long term reliable operation
- Fully modular design

How to decide whether it is worth buying
The RM850x is a strong fit to consider if your build calls for 850W, you want a native 12V-2×6 cable and ATX 3.1 support, its dimensions fit your case, and its local price is competitive. It is not possible to name a price-matched winner from the available information because current street prices and stock vary by retailer and region.
- Capacity: Check your actual CPU, GPU, and system requirements rather than buying based on the 850W label alone.
- Generation and connector: Verify the 2024 ATX 3.1 version, exact regional SKU, and included GPU cable.
- Fit: Allow for the 160 mm PSU body and room to route modular cables.
- Connectors: Compare the published EPS, PCIe, SATA, and PATA inventory with your parts and planned upgrades.
- Price and support: Compare current local prices and check regional warranty terms.
- Replacement cables: Use only cables verified for CORSAIR Type 4 and the exact PSU.
Hardware Busters gives a $150 MSRP excluding VAT. That is the MSRP reported in its review, not a current street-price quote or a universal price for every region.
