To unequip a Rocket Radar in Pokémon GO, open your Bag, find the Radar, and use its equip/unequip control. You can manage both the regular Rocket Radar and the Super Rocket Radar there, according to Niantic’s Pokémon GO Help Center.
Unequip a Rocket Radar from your Bag
- Open your in-game Bag.
- Find the Rocket Radar. If you mean the item used to search for Giovanni, find the Super Rocket Radar instead.
- Use the item’s equip/unequip control to switch it off. Niantic’s instructions do not specify one button label for every app version, so use the control shown on your item screen.
What changes when the regular Radar is unequipped?
The regular Rocket Radar reveals nearby Team GO Rocket Leader Hideouts. While it is equipped, a Radar button appears below the compass on Map View to let you view those hideouts. Team GO Rocket Leaders will not appear at PokéStops unless the regular Radar is equipped, according to Niantic’s Leader and Giovanni help article.

Regular Rocket Radar and Super Rocket Radar are different items

Does unequipping or losing a battle use up the regular Radar?
Unequipping the regular Radar turns off its Leader-Hideout function; it is not the same as defeating a Leader. Niantic says the regular Radar is consumed when you defeat a Leader, but not when you attempt and lose the battle. The Super Rocket Radar is a separate item and is managed from the Bag as well.
