First check whether they are already linked, then use the correct app or controller procedure to put both devices into linking mode. Pairing is not the same as binding a drone to an account or connecting a phone to a controller.
Before pairing, identify the connection you need
Find the model name of both the aircraft and controller. Also check whether the controller has a built-in screen or uses a phone for its flight app; that changes the setup steps. Do not assume that instructions for one drone in a brand’s lineup apply to another.

- Aircraft-to-controller linking establishes the radio connection used to control the drone.
- Account or device binding associates an aircraft with an account. DJI documents this separately from linking: DJI Aircraft Linking Guide.
- Phone-to-controller connection lets the app communicate with a controller. A phone cable issue does not necessarily mean the aircraft needs to be re-paired.
A new drone and controller may already be linked. DJI says this is generally the case for new aircraft, including some combo products. Re-linking may be needed after incompatible firmware or a failed update, a Care Refresh replacement, or a repair that replaces a core board. Potensic says to re-pair the ATOM if its aircraft or controller is replaced. See the model-specific guidance in the DJI guide and Potensic ATOM manual.
Pair using the exact model’s procedure
DJI Fly aircraft
DJI’s general linking guide covers DJI Fly products, but exact prompts and button sequences can vary by model. For a controller without a built-in screen, connect the aircraft and controller to a mobile device, open Camera View, go to Control, and choose Re-pair to Aircraft (Link). Then hold the aircraft’s power button to enter linking mode. In the guide’s Mini 5 Pro and Mini 4 Pro example, the button is held for more than four seconds.

If your controller has a built-in screen, do not connect it to a phone for this linking procedure; follow the on-screen and model-specific directions instead. Refer to the DJI Aircraft Linking Guide for the applicable flow.
DJI Mini 2
The Mini 2 has its own documented options: start linking through the app’s Pair to Aircraft (Link) control, or use the specified three controller buttons together for two seconds. Hold the aircraft power button for four seconds to put the aircraft into linking mode. Follow the Mini 2 instructions for the button combination and confirm the connection using the signals specified there; do not transfer this sequence to another model. See DJI Mini 2 support.

Potensic ATOM
- Turn on the controller and connect your mobile device.
- In the app, open Settings > Calibration > Re-paring the drone.
- Power on the drone and hold its power button until its indicators flash green.
- Wait about seven seconds. A controller beep and live transmission in the app indicate a successful pairing.
During this procedure, keep the devices within 1 m (3.3 ft), still, and away from other 2.4 GHz interference. If it fails, retry the documented steps. The wording and success signals above are specific to the ATOM manual: Potensic ATOM User Manual.
Autel EVO
Autel’s EVO FAQ directs users to its pairing support video. If the pairing steps do not work, it points to manual firmware-update instructions and then Autel support. The FAQ does not spell out the video procedure in text, so use Autel’s instructions for your EVO model rather than substituting another brand’s button sequence: Autel EVO FAQ.

Check for a successful link
Use the confirmation signal stated for your model. Depending on the procedure, DJI describes aircraft beeps and controller lights, including a solid green status LED for applicable procedures. The Potensic ATOM procedure uses a controller beep and live transmission in the app. These indicators are not universal: consult the relevant manufacturer instructions if the signal differs or is absent.

If the drone and controller still will not connect
- Check power and operating state. Charge and switch on both devices as instructed, and make sure neither is in calibration or upgrade mode instead of normal connection mode.
- Confirm the model and app. Use the app and linking flow specified for your aircraft and controller. DJI distinguishes DJI Fly and DJI GO 4 procedures; Autel directs EVO users to its own pairing steps. The DJI guide and Autel FAQ provide their respective instructions.
- Separate a phone-cable problem from a radio-link problem. If your phone connects to the controller by USB, check that the cable is intact, correctly inserted, and supports data transfer. Autel recommends the supplied phone cable or another compatible cable for connecting an iPhone to an EVO controller. Potensic advises selecting Data Transfer in the phone’s USB options when prompted. These checks address the phone-to-controller connection, not every aircraft pairing failure. See the Autel EVO FAQ and Potensic troubleshooting guidance.
- For an ATOM, follow its specific range and interference advice. Keep the devices within 1 m, avoid nearby 2.4 GHz interference, and do not move them during pairing, as directed in the ATOM manual.
- Consider an update issue. If connection stopped after a firmware update, DJI identifies incompatible firmware or a failed update as possible reasons re-linking may be needed. Autel directs users to manual firmware-update steps if its pairing procedure fails, and Potensic notes that an abnormal phone-controller-aircraft connection during an update can cause the update to fail. Use the manufacturer’s update and recovery instructions rather than repeatedly trying an unrelated pairing sequence. See the DJI guide, Autel FAQ, and Potensic troubleshooting guidance.
- Escalate persistent failures. If the official procedure for your exact model does not work, contact the manufacturer or its repair channel. Do not assume a replacement controller will work just because it is from the same brand; verify compatibility for the exact aircraft before buying.
