To delete a row in Google Sheets, select its row number and choose Delete rows on a computer. In the mobile app, use the row’s menu: touch and hold the row on Android, or tap it and choose Delete row on iPhone or iPad. Deleting removes the row from the sheet; clearing contents only removes values.
Delete a row in Google Sheets on a computer

Click the number at the left of the row you want to remove. To delete adjacent rows together, select their row numbers.

Right-click the selected row number and choose Delete rows. If you use a screen reader, Google documents selecting the rows, pressing Shift+F10 to open the context menu, and choosing Delete rows. See Google’s screen-reader instructions for Sheets.

Google’s computer shortcut reference also lists Ctrl+Alt+- for deleting selected rows. Select the row or rows first; shortcut behavior can vary by browser and operating system. See Google’s computer keyboard shortcuts.

Delete a row in the Google Sheets app
Android

Open the spreadsheet in the Google Sheets app.

Touch and hold the row you want to delete, then tap Delete in the menu. Make sure you press and hold the row, rather than a column. Google’s steps are in its Android instructions for adding or moving columns and cells.
iPhone or iPad

Open the spreadsheet in the Google Sheets app and tap the row you want to remove.

In the menu, tap the right arrow if needed, then tap Delete row. See Google’s iPhone and iPad instructions.

Delete a row or clear its contents?
Choose Delete rows or Delete row when you want to remove the row itself from the sheet. If you only want to remove values while leaving the row in place, clear the cell contents instead. Google’s screen-reader help distinguishes these actions: pressing the Delete key clears contents without shifting cells, while deleting selected rows removes them as rows. For deleting individual cells, Sheets separately asks whether remaining content should shift up or left.
