To change the input on a Vizio TV, turn on the connected device, press Input (or, on some remotes, Source), then choose the TV input that matches the port the device uses, such as HDMI 1. The precise remote button and menu can vary by TV model.
Switch to a connected device
- Turn on the device you want to use, such as a game console, streaming player, cable box, or antenna receiver, and connect it to the TV.
- Press Input or Source on the Vizio remote. Remote layouts differ, so check the labels on your remote rather than assuming every model has the same control.
- Choose the matching input from the on-screen list. If the device is plugged into the TV’s HDMI 2 port, select HDMI 2.
- Confirm if needed. Press OK or Select if the menu asks you to confirm, then wait for the TV to display the device.
The selected source must match the physical port in use. For example, choosing HDMI 1 will not show a device connected to HDMI 2.

Why HDMI inputs vary by Vizio model
Vizio TVs do not all have the same number of HDMI ports. Vizio’s model pages list three HDMI inputs for the M43Q6M-K04 and D55x-G1, and two for the VFD32M-0807. These examples are model-specific, not a count that applies to every Vizio TV.

Check the labels beside the TV’s ports and match the device’s cable to that label. If the input you expect is not listed onscreen, consult the manual for your exact model; the number and arrangement of available inputs can differ.

If the input is missing or the screen is blank
The input you need is not listed
- Check which HDMI port the device is actually connected to, and look for that matching input in the TV’s list.
- Make sure the cable runs to the TV, not to another component such as an audio receiver.
- Use the model-specific manual to confirm the available ports and remote controls. Vizio’s support portal provides access to remote help and user manuals.
The selected input says “No signal” or stays blank
- Confirm the external device is powered on.
- Check that the cable is firmly connected at both the TV and device.
- Select the input that corresponds to the port in use again.
- If there is still no picture, follow troubleshooting guidance in the manual for your exact TV model.
These checks address the connection and source selection. There is no single reset or firmware fix established for every Vizio model.
Your remote has no Input button
Remote controls differ across Vizio models. The model pages identify an XRT260 remote with the M43Q6M-K04, an XRT136 with the D55x-G1, and an XRT140 with the VFD32M-0807. Find your TV’s model number and consult its remote guide or manual for the correct control; do not assume a universal button sequence. If the original remote is missing or faulty, verify a replacement’s compatibility with your exact TV model before buying one.

Do you need to buy anything?
Changing the selected input does not require a new cable or remote. A suitable cable matters only if you are connecting a device and do not already have one that fits its connection; a replacement remote is relevant only if yours is unavailable or not working.
