On most Samsung tablets, the clipboard is part of Samsung Keyboard. Open an app with a text field, such as a message, note, or search box, so the keyboard appears. Tap the clipboard icon on the keyboard toolbar, then tap the text or image you want to paste. Samsung notes that screens differ by device and One UI version, so if your toolbar looks different, the troubleshooting section below covers the usual causes.
Open the clipboard from the on-screen keyboard
This is the route Samsung documents for accessing clipboard history on a tablet. It works in any app that accepts typed text.

- Tap a place you can type, such as a message field, a note, or the search bar, so the on-screen keyboard opens.
- On Samsung Keyboard, tap the clipboard icon in the keyboard toolbar. If you do not see it, open the toolbar’s extra-icons menu and look for Clipboard.
- Tap the item you want. Samsung’s instructions say the selected item is inserted at the cursor position.
Samsung’s Japan support guide for the clipboard states that the feature can pin up to 20 items, or up to 10 on Android 10 and below. That limit comes from Samsung Japan, and it depends on the Android version, so check your own software before relying on a specific number.

If the clipboard icon is missing
Most cases come down to one of three checks. Work through them in order.

- Check the extra tools. The clipboard icon can be tucked into the keyboard toolbar’s additional icons rather than shown directly.
- Confirm Samsung Keyboard is the active keyboard. If another keyboard is in use, switch to Samsung Keyboard and try again.
- Know the third-party keyboard limit. Samsung says clipboard use may be unavailable with third-party keyboards on Android 12 or later, and it recommends Samsung Keyboard for this workflow.
Menu labels vary by device, provider, and software version. If none of these checks reveal the clipboard, the item may simply be on a different One UI version than the guide describes, and the keyboard’s settings are the next place to look.
Copy and paste without a keyboard cover
You do not need a physical keyboard cover for ordinary copy and paste. Touch menus handle the job. This method uses the text-selection menu, which is separate from the clipboard-history panel described above.

- Select the text you want, either by pressing and holding a word or by dragging the selection handles.
- Touch and hold the selection, then choose Copy or Cut.
- Touch and hold where you want the text to go, then choose Paste. This pastes the current clipboard item.
Samsung’s South Africa support page for tablet-mode copy and paste was last updated on 5 October 2020. The touch-based flow is still the documented method, but the menu labels on newer One UI versions may be slightly different.

Sharing the clipboard between Galaxy devices
If you mean copying on a phone or another tablet and pasting on your Samsung tablet, that is a separate feature. Samsung says it requires all of the following:
- One UI 3.1 or later on both devices
- The same Samsung account signed in on both devices
- Both devices on the same Wi-Fi network
- Bluetooth turned on
- Continue on other devices enabled on both devices
Because the tablet model and software version vary, check each device’s version before relying on this feature. A tablet that cannot meet these conditions will still have the local clipboard history described above.

Troubleshooting checklist
- The clipboard does not open from the toolbar: confirm Samsung Keyboard is active, then check the extra-tools menu.
- Paste does not appear: make sure you tapped inside a text field that accepts typing before opening the clipboard.
- Only a few items appear: the list is limited, and older items may have dropped off. The Japan guide’s limits apply to Samsung Keyboard’s clipboard feature.
- Cross-device paste fails: verify all five requirements in the list above on both devices.
