Digital magazine access is controlled by the service that sells or hosts the subscription. You generally sign in with the account used to subscribe; reading on multiple devices, downloading issues, sharing access and what happens after cancellation depend on that provider’s rules. An offline download is not a guarantee that an issue will remain available after a subscription ends.
How a digital magazine subscription gives you access
Most digital subscriptions connect access to a service account and the purchase or subscription associated with it. You subscribe through a magazine publisher or a platform, then sign in to that service’s app or supported products. The exact publications, devices and account steps vary by provider.

Apple News+ example
Apple News+ provides access to magazines and newspapers through the News app. Apple directs subscribers to use the same Apple Account for App Store purchases on their devices to access the subscription across those devices. News+ is not available in every country or region. See Apple’s subscription and account instructions.
Google account linking is a different case
For select newspaper subscriptions, Google may offer an “Already a subscriber?” option. A subscriber can sign in with the email used to buy the subscription and, if offered, link it to a Google Account to access subscription content across Google products while signed in. This applies to the select newspaper subscriptions described in Google’s Subscribe with Google help page; it should not be assumed to cover every magazine or publisher. Unlinking from a Google Account does not cancel or change the underlying subscription.

Can you read downloaded magazines offline?
Only if the service supports issue downloads and you download the issue before going offline. Apple says, “With an Apple News+ subscription, you can download issues to read when you’re not connected to the internet.” In the News app, downloaded issues are available in the Downloaded area. Apple’s instructions are for News+ on iPhone; other services may handle downloads differently. See Apple’s download and issue-removal guide.
Downloading and removing an issue in Apple News+
Apple distinguishes removing a local download from removing an issue from My Magazines. You can remove an issue from Downloaded and access it again from My Magazines. Removing it from My Magazines removes its cover and content from the device and from other devices signed into the same Apple Account where News is enabled in iCloud. These controls and effects are specific to Apple News+.

Using a subscription on more than one device
Multi-device access depends on the provider’s account rules, supported apps and device compatibility. For Apple News+, use the same Apple Account for App Store purchases on each device. For a Google-linked subscription, access may be available across Google products where the linked Google Account is signed in, but only when the subscription and linking option are supported. Check the provider’s current instructions before assuming that a purchase can be shared across apps, accounts or devices.

Apple says News+ and Apple One Premier subscribers can share News+ with up to five other family members through Family Sharing. News+ availability varies by country or region. These are Apple-specific provisions; other services set their own sharing rules and geographic availability. Consult Apple’s current News+ instructions for applicable details.

What happens to downloads when you cancel?
There is no general rule established here for whether downloaded issues remain readable after a subscription expires or is canceled. Offline storage and the right to read an issue are separate questions: an issue downloaded while subscribed may still be subject to the service’s access terms. Check that service’s current terms for what happens at expiration rather than relying on a saved file remaining usable.

Cancel through the provider or seller that manages billing. Apple’s News app guide includes cancellation steps for News+. Google separately says unlinking an eligible subscription from a Google Account does not cancel or change it. Signing out, unlinking an account, deleting an app, or removing a downloaded issue should not be treated as confirmation that billing has stopped. Identify the billing provider and follow its cancellation process, then check its confirmation or account status.

What to check before subscribing
- Catalog: Confirm that the publications you want are included.
- Billing: Find out which publisher or platform charges you and where cancellation is managed.
- Accounts and devices: Check supported devices, apps and sign-in requirements.
- Region: Verify that the service and the relevant publications are available where you live.
- Offline reading: Confirm whether issues can be downloaded and how the app manages saved issues.
- Sharing: Review family or household sharing limits and eligibility.
- After cancellation: Read the provider’s terms for access to past issues after expiration.
