Nighttime: serve the catch
At night, the sushi restaurant operates. Fish caught on dives and cooking connect the gathering phase to the restaurant’s supply and service. In practical terms, the player alternates between finding ingredients underwater and putting them to use in the restaurant.

Why diving involves risk
The developer says items acquired during exploration disappear if Dave dies. That makes the dive a risk-and-return decision: gathering more can increase what is at stake, while returning safely preserves the haul. The loss applies to items gathered during exploration; it is not described as a penalty imposed on the restaurant.
What kind of game is it?
Steam classifies Dave the Diver as a single-player adventure RPG. “Hybrid” is also a useful plain-language description of its structure: the game combines underwater exploration and fishing with nighttime sushi restaurant management. The two activities have different purposes—gathering supplies and serving them—but the catch links them.

How much time does each activity take?
The official descriptions establish a day-and-night sequence, but do not quantify what share of playtime is spent diving versus managing the restaurant. The balance should not be reduced to an exact percentage based on those descriptions.
