I made four books in two months manageable by choosing titles ahead of time, setting a recurring reading slot, using print, ebook, or audio according to the day, and checking my progress weekly. That is a personal planning method, not a promise that every team lead—or every reading list—will fit the same schedule.
Start with a plan, not a faster reading pace
Four books across roughly eight weeks means using one book every two weeks as a planning checkpoint. It does not mean every book takes the same time: length, density, your familiarity with the subject, interruptions, and how carefully you want to read all affect the pace. There is no established pages-per-day or words-per-minute target here that guarantees the result.

Choose the books before the busy weeks begin
I start with four titles—or a short list to choose from—and favor books I genuinely want or need to read. Keeping an appealing next book ready matters: TIME quoted author and reader Anne Bogel saying, “We can talk about time-management strategies all day, but if a reader doesn’t have good books at the ready, then there’s a duty-but no motivation or enthusiasm,” (TIME, 2023).
If one title turns out to be a poor fit for the time available, I can switch to another candidate instead of treating the original list as an obligation. The aim is a sustainable routine, not finishing a book at the expense of understanding it.

Set a recurring slot you can actually keep
Put reading in a repeatable place in the week: a quiet stretch before work, a break, or another time that is genuinely available. TIME’s 2025 reading challenge uses 25 minutes a day as one example of a concrete commitment. Its calculation—25 minutes multiplied by 365 days—is 9,125 minutes, or more than 152 hours in a year. That is an example and arithmetic, not a minimum, a universal recommendation, or evidence that a given reader will finish four particular books in two months (TIME, 2025).
Choose a smaller or less frequent target if that better matches your schedule. A target is useful because it turns “I should read more” into a plan you can check; it is not useful if it creates another unrealistic work deadline.

Match the format to the time and attention available
Short waits, a dedicated reading slot, and a walk are different situations. I use the format that fits the place and the attention I can give it, rather than expecting every session to look the same. TIME describes ebooks as an option for waiting periods and audiobooks for walks or household tasks. New York Public Library Reader Services staff member Chasity Moreno, quoted in the same article, says, “Sometimes you don’t have the time to sit and read,” (TIME, 2023).
| Format | Where it can fit | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| A dedicated reading slot | No device is needed, but carrying and using a book may be less convenient during short waits or activities. | |
| Ebook | Brief waits and portable reading | Library selection and device compatibility vary. A phone or tablet may be enough; buying an e-reader is optional. |
| Audiobook | A walk or a household task when listening is safe and attention is available | It requires audio access and concentration. Not every task is suitable for listening, and it should not distract from safe driving or other activities that require attention. |
| Hybrid | Switching between text and audio when convenient | It offers flexibility, but there is no basis here to claim that switching formats improves retention. |
These are ways to use time that already exists, not extra hours created by multitasking. Audio only works when the activity leaves enough attention for both the task and the book.
Use a library app if digital borrowing suits you
Libby offers ebooks and digital audiobooks through participating libraries. You need a library card for each library you add, and each library’s collection and availability are specific to that library. When connected to Wi-Fi, loans download for offline use by default (Libby quick-start guide).
A title may not be available to borrow immediately. If a library does not offer it, Libby may show “Notify Me” rather than “Borrow”; check the app for the status of the book you want. Kindle is optional: Libby says most of its books can be read on a Kindle e-reader in the U.S. only, and not every title is supported (Libby Help: Kindle books). A phone, tablet, or print book may be all you need.

Track progress lightly and adjust once a week
Once a week, I check whether I have made room for reading and whether the current book still fits the plan. If the book is longer or denser than expected, or work has crowded out the slot, I revise the target or choose another title. I do not assume the answer is to read faster.

If you prefer an app, Apple Books lets users change its daily reading goal (default: five minutes) and yearly goal (default: three books), and mark titles finished. Those are the app’s documented defaults, not targets every reader should adopt (Apple Support).
Decide what counts as finishing
Choose a definition that matches your reading practice and apply it consistently. If I count a completed audiobook, I say so rather than implying I read every page in print or on screen. The format can vary; completion should still mean I engaged with the book in a way that meets my own purpose.
