Businesses use video streaming to communicate live across locations and make training and reference material available on demand. It can support town halls, onboarding, remote collaboration and customer events—but results depend on choosing a format that fits the audience and workflow, and assigning people to run it.
Where video streaming fits into business operations
Leadership updates and town halls
A live town hall lets employees in different offices or time zones hear the same announcement. If attendance is optional or schedules vary, make a recording or transcript available afterward. Microsoft lists town halls among its video scenarios, and AWS describes secure town halls and remote-work use cases (Microsoft Learn; AWS).

Training and onboarding
Stream a live demonstration when employees or partners need instruction at the same time, or record repeatable material—such as a product walkthrough or procedure—for later viewing. A searchable, organized video library can also serve as an on-demand reference. Microsoft identifies employee and partner training as use cases; Panopto describes business video and integrations with learning and collaboration platforms (Microsoft Learn; Panopto). Whether a library saves time is something to measure in your own workflow, not assume.

Remote and hybrid collaboration
Interactive video meetings suit work where participants need to talk, demonstrate, or make decisions together. Shared production workflows can also help distributed teams prepare internal communications. A Microsoft case study describes Globo using Teams for internal communication, hybrid work, and live production (Microsoft Partner Center).

Customer events and external communication
A broadcast can extend a product presentation, industry session, or virtual event beyond the people who can attend in person. Microsoft Learn and AWS describe external events and virtual trade shows as streaming scenarios (Microsoft Learn; AWS).
Choose the format around the operational job
| Need | Likely format | Decision to make |
|---|---|---|
| Discussion, questions, or group work | Interactive video meeting or live instruction | Do participants need to speak and collaborate, or is moderated Q&A enough? |
| One announcement for a large audience | Live broadcast with moderated questions | Estimate peak attendance, locations, and devices; plan recording access for people who miss it. |
| Repeatable instruction or reference | Recorded video in an organized library | Who owns updates, access, storage, and organization of the material? |
| Real-time event plus later access | Live stream with a governed recording | Confirm whether the platform and workflow support the required access and retention controls. |
Before selecting a service, check identity and access requirements, integration with existing learning, conferencing, and content-management tools, and who will produce and support events. Ask how the service handles buffering, geographic delivery, analytics, and troubleshooting. Security controls vary by vendor; confirm the current configuration directly rather than assuming that a platform’s general description establishes your organization’s requirements. Microsoft and Panopto describe workflow integrations, while the Hive case study illustrates event analytics and troubleshooting (Panopto; Microsoft Partner Center).

Plan delivery, access, and ownership
- Define the audience. Estimate expected peak viewers, geographic spread, and likely device mix. A small interactive session and a company-wide broadcast have different delivery needs.
- Decide how viewers participate. Choose open discussion, questions through a moderator, or a one-way broadcast. Set expectations for who can speak and how questions will be handled.
- Set live and replay needs. Decide whether the content must happen in real time, remain useful on demand, or do both. Assign someone to publish and organize any recording or transcript.
- Confirm identity and content governance. Specify who may view, where recordings are stored, and how access and retention are managed. Verify those controls in the selected service.
- Assign operational roles. Name owners for production, speaker coordination, audience support, and troubleshooting. For larger events, decide who monitors quality and handles viewer issues.
- Review the full cost. Include licenses or delivery charges, production labor, accessibility work, storage, and support. Comparable current service prices are not established here, so request quotes against your expected use.
What case-study numbers do—and do not—show
Vendor case studies can illustrate a specific deployment, but their results are not a forecast for another business or proof that streaming itself improved productivity. Hive Streaming’s Microsoft partner case study reports 279 events, more than 4,000 participants at its largest event, more than 120,000 total viewership, and an 87 percent quality-of-experience figure for its largest events; the page does not state the year (Microsoft Partner Center). AWS’s MNC Group case study reports 60 percent faster video start times and more than 40 percent fewer playback issues for Vision+, an OTT media service—not an internal business-training outcome (AWS). Treat these as customer-specific claims, not general benchmarks.

A webcam is optional capture equipment, useful when a presenter needs a dedicated camera for a meeting, training session, or internal broadcast. Logitech specifies that the Brio 305 supports 1080p at 30 fps or 720p at 30 fps, connects by USB-C, and includes a microphone and privacy shutter; the product page lists certification for Teams, Zoom, and Google Meet (Logitech). Check compatibility with your organization’s device standards and connection requirements before buying. A camera does not provide audience access control, stable network delivery, a content workflow, or a platform suited to the event.
