How Basegent and Bucket Space Connected AI Support to Sanity Context

Miracleio’s Basegent and Bucket Space case study shows how Sanity Context can supply read-only support knowledge—and why retrieval metadata matters.

Basegent and Bucket Space used Sanity Context as a read-only content source for an AI support assistant: Sanity held support knowledge, Basegent handled the assistant and retrieval flow, and Bucket Space embedded the chat interface. The practical lesson in the project account is that an outline alone did not always route a question to the right entry; richer index metadata and search were added to improve discovery. These are implementation details and observations reported by Miracleio, not independently verified performance results.

What the Basegent and Bucket Space integration did

In a DEV Community article published October 4, 2026, Miracleio describes Bucket Space, a bookmarking and content-capture application, as a proving ground for Basegent, an AI customer support and operations platform. The author says they built a first-party Sanity Context source adapter, created a Sanity Knowledge Base from support-policy content, and embedded a Basegent chat widget in Bucket Space. The separation matters: Sanity provided content access, while Basegent managed the assistant and retrieval orchestration; Bucket Space supplied the customer-facing application context. Sanity describes Context as a hosted MCP server for structured, read-only access to content. It does not run an agent loop or write to the dataset. Sanity Context documentation.

How the Knowledge Base retrieval flow worked

  1. Start with an outline. The author’s flow called initial_context to get the Knowledge Base outline.
  2. Choose candidate paths. The application used the outline to identify relevant entries. Miracleio reports that outline routing could miss a question about an iOS Share Sheet shortcut when the index did not describe the content richly enough.
  3. Read the entry. The integration called knowledge_base_read with the Knowledge Base ID and a path taken verbatim from the outline. Sanity documents these outline and read tools for Knowledge Base mode. Context MCP tools reference.
  4. Improve discovery where the outline was insufficient. The author reports adding richer index metadata and using knowledge_base_search to augment candidate paths. Treat this search implementation as a detail of the project, and consult Sanity’s current tool reference for supported behavior.
  5. Answer with relevant user context and an escalation route. The author says the assistant received authenticated user attributes, distinguished refund eligibility from processing time in an example answer, and offered escalation.

The source content included support rules scoped by plan, market, and product or deployment type, along with effective dates and precedence. It also included setup guidance such as an iOS Share Sheet shortcut. The author says reviewing issues surfaced conflicting policies, which they resolved into standing instructions. This describes that project’s dataset and workflow; it is not a guarantee that every Knowledge Base automatically detects or resolves conflicts.

Choose between live GROQ access and a pre-built Knowledge Base

Sanity documents two Context approaches. GROQ mode queries a configured live dataset; Knowledge Base mode retrieves material selected and indexed ahead of time. The appropriate fit depends on the shape of your content and how current the retrieved material needs to be.

Decision point GROQ mode Knowledge Base mode
Content shape Structured, schema-consistent data that can be queried. Selected material whose information may be spread across prose and multiple sources.
When content is accessed Queries the configured dataset live. Retrieves from an index built ahead of the request.
Agent interaction Schema and query tools. An outline followed by entry reads; paths should be copied verbatim from the outline.
Product maturity GROQ mode is documented as a Context option. Knowledge Bases are opt-in beta; features and limits may change before general availability.
Access control Organization-scoped Context access and server-side credentials. Organization-scoped Context access and server-side credentials.

These distinctions follow Sanity’s Context overview, tool reference, and Knowledge Bases documentation. The beta status was noted in Sanity’s documentation updated September 18, 2026; confirm the current status and limits before choosing this architecture.

What you need to configure access

Sanity’s Context MCP reference gives the endpoint pattern as https://api.sanity.io/v1/context/organizations/:organizationId/mcp/:mcpEndpointName. Requests use a bearer token. Sanity specifies an organization API token with Context Viewer permission; a project API token is not accepted. Keep the token on the server rather than exposing it in a browser-based chat client. See the Context MCP reference and Sanity security documentation.

Context provides content tools, not the surrounding application. Your integration still needs to manage the model or agent loop, choose when and how to call retrieval tools, supply appropriate user context, render responses, and handle fallback or escalation. The Basegent and Bucket Space article reports project-specific work on multi-provider BYOK/BYOI, published React and client packages, repeated escalation prompts, and streams that returned no tokens; those details are not universal requirements for Sanity Context.

What the case study does—and does not—show

Miracleio’s account offers an architectural example and a useful retrieval lesson: when a question cannot be mapped reliably from a sparse outline, improve the index descriptions and add a search path rather than assuming the model will infer the right entry. The account does not provide a controlled benchmark, independently audited security findings, uptime measurements, or quantified improvement in support resolution. It therefore supports understanding the implementation, not a claim that it eliminates hallucinations or guarantees production reliability.
