b0x Network proposed an Ethereum-based protocol for margin lending and trading that would let competing oracle providers value assets and trigger liquidations. That is a description of a design announced in 2018—not confirmation that the protocol is operating today. The original team announcement is dated February 4, 2018, and the article matching this topic was published March 27, 2018. The project whitepaper documents the team’s intended architecture, not independent proof of deployment or performance.
What b0x was designed to do
b0x was described as peer-to-peer funding and trading infrastructure built on Ethereum and integrated with 0x. It was intended to let exchanges and relays incorporate margin lending and trading, rather than function as an exchange itself. The project also described a decentralized web application frontend and a token intended to support relay incentives and protocol governance; those are historical plans, not evidence of current services or token terms. How the oracle marketplace was supposed to work
The key architectural choice was to separate the core protocol from asset valuation and liquidation. The bZx whitepaper summarizes the approach: “Assets are valued and liquidated via competing oracle providers.” In the project’s rationale, placing these functions outside the core protocol would allow providers to compete, potentially reducing oracle fees and encouraging experimentation. These were intended benefits, not measured results. The whitepaper does not establish how many providers operated, how they performed, or whether fees fell.

The team’s February 2018 announcement described an oracle layer that would monitor margin accounts and liquidate trades if accounts fell below maintenance requirements. It proposed an interface for third-party oracle developers as well as a flagship oracle contract. The announcement is evidence of the design the team presented, not proof that those components were deployed or maintained. The original announcement lays out these plans.

Liquidation incentives and a price check
The announcement also said “bounty hunters” would have an incentive to call the liquidation function. To challenge malicious or premature liquidation attempts, the proposed design included an on-chain price-feed check through KyberNetwork. This describes the planned incentive and validation mechanism; it does not establish how it behaved under real market conditions or whether it was secure in practice. The announcement is the source for these details.
Why separate liquidation from the core protocol?
Delegating valuation and liquidation to competing providers could make it easier to experiment with oracle approaches and give integrations a choice of provider. The trade-off is that the design’s benefits depend on provider quality, reliable pricing, and effective liquidation. The available project descriptions do not verify oracle decentralization in practice, security outcomes, or actual fee reductions. They present competition as a design rationale rather than a demonstrated result. The whitepaper describes this rationale.

What the 2018 sources do—and do not—establish
