The estimate, final value, pickup appointment and installation scope depend on the specific seller, product and location. Check each before placing the order: “exchange” does not guarantee cash payment, same-day collection or a complete installation.
What “appliance exchange” can mean
The word “exchange” is used for arrangements that work differently. In an inspection-based trade-in, you provide information about the old appliance, receive an initial estimate, and let the retailer or its exchange partner inspect the unit. The inspection may produce a different final offer. Depending on the program, you may be able to accept or decline that offer.

Another arrangement is a purchase-linked incentive paired with collection. LG Australia’s terms, for example, describe a trade-in discount or incentive that is not treated as the actual value paid for the old appliance. In that kind of offer, the benefit may depend on buying an eligible new product and meeting collection conditions; it is not necessarily money paid to you for a used appliance.

How the exchange process usually unfolds
The steps below are a useful way to plan, not a universal sequence. For instance, LG India’s exchange FAQ says pickup is arranged after successful delivery of the new product, while other terms may tie removal to the delivery appointment.
- Check eligibility before ordering. Confirm that the new appliance and old unit qualify, whether the exchange is available at your address, and whether the offer applies to your product, model or order. Some collection services have serviceable-postcode limits.
- Enter accurate details about the old appliance. Give the requested model, type, size or capacity, condition and accessory information. The estimate is only as useful as the information provided, and the inspection can check it against the actual unit.
- Read what the displayed amount represents. Determine whether it is a provisional trade-in estimate, a discount on the purchase, or an incentive conditional on collection. Check when the benefit is applied and whether it depends on successful inspection or pickup.
- Prepare the old appliance to the stated requirements. Requirements can include emptying it, disconnecting utilities, making it accessible, or having it uninstalled. Verify whether the unit must be ready before the new appliance arrives.
- Confirm the pickup plan. Find out whether collection is booked with delivery, arranged afterward, or scheduled separately. Ask who will contact you, whether there is a fee, and what happens if the crew cannot safely remove the unit.
- Have the unit inspected and decide what to do with a revised offer. If the program makes the final amount subject to inspection, compare that amount with the terms you accepted. LG India’s FAQ says a customer may decline its final offer and cancel pickup.
- Keep the transaction details. Save the order confirmation, exchange terms shown at checkout, estimate, final offer and pickup confirmation. These records help you check what was promised if the amount, timing or collection outcome is disputed.
Why an exchange estimate can change
An online amount may be an estimate rather than a guaranteed payment. LG India’s exchange terms say its quotes are finalized after evaluation and that no binding offer is made before the used product has been inspected. The company’s FAQ likewise describes the online amount as an estimate, with the final amount determined after inspection.
For that program, an evaluation may consider the old appliance’s brand, model, size or capacity, physical and functional condition, and basic accessories or components. If the details supplied online do not match what the inspector finds—or if the unit’s condition or required components differ—the final amount may change under the program’s terms. The estimate is not a general resale benchmark.

- Locate the model information and enter it carefully rather than guessing.
- Describe visible damage and functional problems accurately.
- Check whether required accessories or components must be available for inspection or handover.
- Read how the program handles a lower final offer, including whether you can decline it and what happens to the new-product order.
LG India’s terms publish indicative values by appliance category, capacity and condition in Indian rupees. Those figures belong to that particular program and can change; they should not be treated as current general-market values. The available information does not establish a standard formula or an industry-wide average for appliance exchange values.
How to compare exchange offers
Compare the terms for your own location, product and order, rather than assuming that offers with the same “exchange” label work alike. These examples illustrate why the details matter; they are not a ranking of providers.

For any two offers, compare the same practical dimensions: whether the benefit is an assessed value or an incentive; whether an estimate can change; when any credit is applied; where and when collection is available; preparation requirements and fees; installation inclusions and exclusions; and your fallback if the final valuation or pickup cannot proceed. If a term is not stated in the offer you received, ask the seller to clarify it before checkout.

Pickup: timing, access and preparation
There is no universal pickup timetable. LG India’s FAQ says an associate contacts the customer to arrange collection after successful delivery of the new LG product. LG Australia’s terms describe removal of a similar type and size at the delivery premises, subject to postcode coverage and preparation requirements. These examples are different arrangements, so confirm the plan attached to your own order instead of assuming that the old unit will leave when the new one arrives.

Preparation depends on the appliance and service. Official guidance from different providers gives examples such as emptying the old unit, disconnecting power and water, making it accessible and safe to handle, and having it uninstalled. Costco’s US guidance says certain built-in appliances, and appliances without installation coverage, must be professionally uninstalled and ready before delivery for haul-away. Voltas says an old AC must be uninstalled and ready for collection, and identifies de-installation as a separate service that may involve a charge.
Before the appointment, confirm these details in the actual service terms:
- Whether the old appliance must be the same type or size as the new one.
- Whether it must be empty, disconnected from power or water, or professionally uninstalled.
- Whether required accessories need to be handed over with it.
- Whether stairs, narrow doors, restricted access or the unit’s location affect removal.
- Whether pickup has a separate fee or requires a separate appointment.
- Whether the old appliance must be ready before delivery, or only when the collection crew arrives.
Do not disconnect or uninstall a unit based only on a general checklist if the seller has not confirmed the requirement. In particular, built-in appliances and units connected to utilities may need qualified work; use the provider’s instructions and arrange any separately required service in advance.

“Installation” does not have one standard scope. GE Appliances says its authorized delivery agents deliver, uncrate and inspect appliances, set them in place, level them, connect them to an existing proper power source and test them. That description is a specific service example, not a promise that every seller will perform the same work.

Costco’s US guidance identifies carpentry, electrical and plumbing work among tasks its team cannot perform. A delivery or installation appointment therefore should not be assumed to include building modifications, new wiring, plumbing changes or other work outside the listed service. The exact exclusions depend on the provider and appliance.
Also check whether “set in place” means only positioning the appliance or includes the connections needed for it to operate. Some products or locations may require a separate visit for installation or haul-away. Verify what is covered for your model, what condition existing connections must be in, and whether someone needs to complete additional work before delivery.
Installation parts are model-dependent. Whirlpool says parts may be added when installation is selected, and its checkout can identify compatible parts for self-installation. Use the compatibility guidance for the exact model and consult its instructions; a generic installation kit should not be assumed to fit every appliance or existing connection.
What to do if the exchange does not go as planned
The final value is lower than the estimate
Ask which observed difference affected the assessment—such as model, function, condition or accessories—and compare the explanation with the exchange terms for your order. If the program permits rejection, decide whether the revised benefit is still worthwhile before authorizing collection. Under LG India’s FAQ, the customer can decline the final offer and cancel pickup; do not assume that this remedy applies to another seller or incentive.

The pickup date is unclear or the crew cannot collect the unit
Check whether pickup was supposed to be arranged at delivery or scheduled afterward, then contact the seller or exchange partner named in the order. Ask whether another appointment is possible and whether a failed collection changes the incentive or order. Coverage limits, preparation requirements and access constraints can affect whether collection is completed, so keep the appointment and exchange confirmations available.
Installation requires work that is not included
Compare the requested work with the service description before the delivery appointment. If the job needs professional uninstalling, plumbing, electrical work or carpentry outside the service scope, arrange qualified help and confirm the required completion time with the retailer. Do not treat the delivery agent’s ability to position or test an appliance as evidence that site modifications are included.
Questions to settle before checkout
- Is this an assessed trade-in payment, a discount or incentive tied to purchase, or a removal service?
- Is the displayed amount guaranteed, or can inspection change it? What may be inspected?
- Can I decline a revised amount, and what happens to pickup and my new-product order if I do?
- Is exchange or removal available for my address, and when will the old appliance be collected?
- What preparation, accessories, access conditions or professional uninstalling are required?
- What exactly does installation cover for this model, and what work or parts cost extra?
Getting those answers against the actual order terms is more useful than relying on a general promise of “exchange,” “haul-away” or “installation.”
