Alphabet makes most of its money through Google Services, especially advertising associated with Search and YouTube. It also earns from consumer subscriptions, apps and devices, sells cloud computing and workplace software to businesses, and operates a smaller portfolio of “Other Bets.” For the fiscal year ended December 31, 2025, Alphabet reported $402.836 billion in revenue; Google Services generated $342.721 billion of it.
Alphabet and Google are not the same thing
Alphabet Inc. is the parent company. Google is its largest business, and Alphabet reports its operations in three main segments: Google Services, Google Cloud and Other Bets. Google Services includes advertising as well as subscriptions, platforms and devices. Google Cloud serves enterprise customers, while Other Bets groups a range of smaller businesses.

The figures below distinguish revenue from operating income or loss. Revenue measures sales; operating income reflects segment profitability after operating expenses. Alphabet also reports some costs outside its segments, so segment results do not by themselves show the full cost of running the company.

Where Alphabet’s 2025 revenue came from
These are Alphabet’s reported U.S.-dollar figures for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2025, from its 2025 Form 10-K, filed February 5, 2026.
#1 Best Overall
| Reported business or revenue category | 2025 revenue | How it earns revenue |
|---|---|---|
| Google Services | $342.721 billion | Advertising, subscriptions, platforms and devices |
| Google Search & other | $224.532 billion | Advertising on Search and other Google-owned properties, including some partner-distributed search traffic |
| YouTube ads | $40.367 billion | Advertising on YouTube properties |
| Google Network advertising | $29.792 billion | Advertising on participating AdMob, AdSense and Google Ad Manager properties |
| Google subscriptions, platforms and devices | $48.030 billion | Consumer subscriptions, Google Play apps and in-app purchases, and device sales |
| Google Cloud | $58.705 billion | Enterprise infrastructure, platform services and applications |

| Alphabet total | $402.836 billion | Revenue across Alphabet’s reported businesses |
Google Services accounts for most of Alphabet’s revenue. The categories within it are reported revenue lines, not a full breakdown of every product or a list of independent companies; in particular, “Google Search & other” should not be read as Search alone.
How Google Search and other Google properties make money
Google sells advertising to businesses seeking to reach people using its services. Advertisers pay for performance-oriented ads as well as brand advertising. The reported “Google Search & other” category includes ads on Google search properties and certain other Google-owned properties, such as Gmail, Maps and Google Play. It also includes revenue from search distribution partners when users reach Google.com through defaults in browsers or toolbars.
Alphabet attributed the category’s 2025 increase to a combination of more queries as users adopted Google and used mobile devices, advertiser spending, and improvements to ad formats and delivery. Its $224.532 billion figure covers the whole reported category, not just the search engine.
Rank #2
How YouTube earns from ads and subscriptions
YouTube has two distinct revenue streams: advertising and subscriptions. Alphabet reported $40.367 billion in YouTube advertising revenue for 2025. Its earnings release also said YouTube revenue across ads and subscriptions exceeded $60 billion. That combined amount is broader than the separately reported ad line and should not be substituted for it.
Subscription offerings include YouTube TV, YouTube Music and Premium, and NFL Sunday Ticket. Alphabet groups YouTube advertising into its own reported line, while subscription revenue is part of “Google subscriptions, platforms and devices.”
How Google Network advertising works
Google Network revenue comes from advertising on properties participating in AdMob, AdSense and Google Ad Manager. These products connect advertisers with participating publishers and app developers. Alphabet reported $29.792 billion in Google Network advertising revenue in 2025, separately from Search & other and YouTube ads.
What subscriptions, platforms and devices includes
Alphabet’s $48.030 billion 2025 line is not a subscriptions-only figure. It combines consumer subscriptions such as YouTube services and Google One, apps and in-app purchases through Google Play, and device sales including the Pixel family. Alphabet said growth in this category during 2025 was driven primarily by subscription growth across YouTube services and Google One.

How Google Cloud makes money
Google Cloud sells enterprise infrastructure, platform services and applications. Customers pay primarily through consumption-based charges and subscriptions for Google Cloud Platform, Workspace and other enterprise services. Its offerings include cloud computing infrastructure, Cloud TPUs and GPUs, Vertex AI, cybersecurity, data and analytics, Gemini Enterprise, and Gemini for Google Workspace.
Google Cloud generated $58.705 billion in 2025 revenue. Alphabet attributed Cloud’s revenue growth primarily to Google Cloud Platform, particularly infrastructure and platform services. Its operating income was $13.910 billion, meaning the segment was profitable on that measure.
What Other Bets is—and what it is not
Other Bets combines multiple operating segments that Alphabet does not report individually as material. The portfolio includes businesses and organizations such as Calico, CapitalG, GFiber, GV, Verily, Waymo, Wing and X. Alphabet describes its revenue as coming primarily from autonomous transportation services, healthcare-related services and internet services; its 10-K identifies autonomous transportation and internet services as primary sources.
Rank #4
Waymo is one business in the portfolio, not another name for the entire segment. Other Bets reported $1.537 billion in revenue and a $7.515 billion operating loss in 2025. The loss alongside the revenue figure is important: the segment’s scale of sales does not mean it was profitable.

Revenue is not the same as profit
Alphabet reported 2025 operating income of $139.404 billion for Google Services and $13.910 billion for Google Cloud, compared with an operating loss of $7.515 billion for Other Bets. Separately, Alphabet-level activities recorded a $16.760 billion operating loss. Alphabet said those activities primarily reflected shared AI research and development expenses.
These are different measures and reporting levels. Google Services’ revenue shows the scale of its sales; its operating income shows the segment’s profitability after operating costs. Alphabet-level activities are not a separate revenue engine, and their costs should not be folded into Other Bets or mistaken for revenue.

What the latest quarterly update adds
For context beyond the full-year figures, Alphabet’s latest available quarterly release as of October 7, 2026 was for Q2 2026, published July 22. Alphabet reported quarterly revenue of $119.8 billion, including $94.5 billion from Google Services and $24.8 billion from Google Cloud. Year over year, Google Search & other revenue grew 17%, YouTube ads grew 13%, and Google Cloud grew 82%. These are quarterly results and growth rates, not fiscal-year 2025 figures.
Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said in the company’s February 4, 2026, Q4 and full-year results release: “It was a tremendous quarter for Alphabet and annual revenues exceeded $400 billion for the first time.”
How to read Alphabet’s business mix
- Advertising: Search, YouTube and Network monetize advertiser demand, user activity and the distribution of ads across Google properties and partner inventory.
- Consumer products: Subscriptions, Google Play transactions and device purchases combine recurring payments with app and hardware sales.
- Enterprise services: Google Cloud earns through business subscriptions and usage-based charges for infrastructure, platforms and applications.
- Other Bets: This smaller portfolio has revenue, particularly from autonomous transportation and internet services, but reported a substantial operating loss in 2025.
The categories differ in how customers pay and how Alphabet reports them. Comparing revenue alone can show relative scale, but operating results and the separate Alphabet-level costs are needed to understand profitability.
