The shift is not simply from typing a prompt to receiving a finished piece. In Adobe’s 2025 creator survey, editing, upscaling and enhancement were the most commonly reported uses of creative generative AI. The creator still has to decide what to make, which outputs fit, what needs revision and when the work is ready.
AI is becoming a workflow tool, not just a prompt box
Creative work often moves through a loop: define an intention, explore possibilities, make or source material, revise it, then approve and deliver the result. Generative AI can assist at different points in that loop. A text prompt may help explore an idea, while an image, video or audio model can produce material to work with. Editing features can then adjust or enhance that material.

Adobe’s inaugural Creators’ Toolkit Report, based on a September 2025 Harris Poll survey of more than 16,000 creators across the US, UK, France, Germany, South Korea, Japan, India and Australia, found that 86% of respondents actively used creative generative AI. The report defines the category broadly, spanning work with images, video, audio and design; it is not a measure of text-to-image use alone.
Where AI can enter the creative process
1. Ideation and prompt-based exploration
A prompt can act like a quick creative brief: it describes a subject, mood, format or constraint and asks a model to generate possibilities. That can help with brainstorming or exploring directions, but the first result is better treated as a draft or reference than as a finished decision. Creators can change the brief, compare variations and decide which direction is worth pursuing.

In Adobe’s 2025 survey, 48% of respondents reported using creative generative AI for ideation and brainstorming. Adobe’s 2026 article on creative professionals also reported that respondents said they got better results by improving prompts and using multiple models. These are survey findings and reported practices, not a guarantee that a particular prompting method will improve every project.
2. Generating images and other assets
After choosing a direction, a creator may use AI to generate or develop material such as images, video, audio or design elements. Adobe’s 2025 report found that 52% of surveyed creators used creative generative AI to generate new assets, including images and video. Adobe’s Firefly announcements describe its products as supporting ideation and generation, as well as access to partner models. Those are Adobe’s descriptions of its own product offering, not an independent comparison of models.
Generation does not settle whether an asset suits the brief. The creator still needs to judge details such as composition, tone, consistency with other materials, and whether the result can be used for its intended purpose. A generated asset may be a starting point for later editing rather than something ready to publish.

3. Producing and editing video
AI can contribute to video work both by creating material and by helping with production or post-production. Adobe’s October 2025 Firefly announcement described soundtrack and speech generation and a timeline-based video editor, which Adobe marked as private beta at that time. Its April 2026 announcement described a multi-track Firefly Video Editor, audio cleanup, color adjustments and stock-asset integration. These are product announcements tied to their publication dates; beta status and availability can change, so check Adobe’s current product information before relying on a particular feature.
A separate Adobe Express survey gives a narrower view of AI video use. Among 384 US respondents surveyed December 1–5, 2025, 71% said they had used AI video generation or editing tools, and 56% said they saved more than 30 minutes per video. Editing was the leading listed use, reported by 58%. These figures describe that US sample, not video creators worldwide.
4. Editing, upscaling and enhancement
AI’s role does not end when an image or clip has been generated. Editing tools can help revise existing material, upscale it or enhance it. In Adobe’s 2025 creator survey, 55% reported using creative generative AI for editing, upscaling and enhancement, making this the most common listed use case in that survey.

The 55% figure covers a broad creator survey and a combined set of editing-related tasks. The 58% figure from Adobe Express covers a different US sample and asks about video AI use. They should not be read as a head-to-head comparison or as estimates of the same activity.
5. Review, approval and delivery
Generation and refinement can produce options, but a person still has to decide which options meet the brief, what requires correction and whether the final work is ready to deliver. In Adobe’s 2026 Creators’ Toolkit Report, 75% of surveyed creators described creative AI as integrated or essential to their workflow, while 85% said the final creative decision should remain theirs. These responses describe surveyed creators’ views; they do not establish how every team assigns approval or responsibility.
Why creators may combine tools
AI features can be spread across different tools, or grouped into a larger creative application. Adobe’s 2025 report found that 60% of surveyed creators had used more than one creative generative AI tool in the prior three months. That suggests tool choices can vary by task; it does not show that a multi-tool setup is best for every person or project.

When evaluating a tool or workflow, compare what it actually helps you do rather than relying on a broad label such as AI-powered:
| What to assess | Question to ask |
|---|---|
| Workflow stage | Does it support ideation, asset generation, editing, or delivery—the part of the process you need help with? |
| Quality and reliability | Are the results usable for your intended task, and can you get consistent enough results? |
| Creative control | Can you select, revise and refine outputs, or are you pushed toward accepting a result as-is? |
| Compatibility and handoffs | Does it work with the apps, file types and review process already used in your workflow? |
| Cost and limits | Do the price, usage limits and other constraints fit how often you expect to use it? |
| Transparency and rights | Can you understand relevant information about training, consent and permitted use for your work? |
Adobe’s 2025 survey found that 38% of respondents cited high cost, 34% unreliable output quality and 28% uncertainty about model training as barriers to adoption. These are reported concerns among survey participants, not a ranking of every tool’s performance or pricing.

In a 2026 Adobe and Advanis survey, more than 400 creative professionals and more than 400 marketers were asked about AI. Adobe reported that 94% of surveyed creative professionals said they could produce content more quickly with AI, and that they reported saving an average of 17 hours per week. Those are self-reported findings from the surveyed group, not a measured time-saving guarantee for an individual workflow.

Whether AI improves a result or saves time depends on the task, the tool and the work required to review and revise its output. A faster first draft may still require substantial selection, cleanup or approval. It is more useful to judge a tool against a real step in your own process than to assume that generation automatically means faster or better work.
Consent, ownership and trust remain part of the decision
Use of creative AI also raises questions about the material used to train models and the terms governing generated or edited work. Adobe’s 2025 survey found that 69% of surveyed creators were concerned about their content being used to train AI without permission. Adobe’s 2026 AI research said ownership, consent and training-data concerns remained high among the groups it surveyed.
These survey findings describe concerns; they do not determine copyright ownership or whether AI training is lawful in a particular jurisdiction. For a consequential project, examine the relevant tool’s terms and the rules that apply where you work, and seek qualified advice when a legal determination is needed.
What the change means for creative work
AI is extending across the creative workflow, from ideation and asset generation to editing and production. Adobe’s surveys and product descriptions illustrate that range, but they do not establish a universal best workflow or prove that AI improves every project. The practical question is where assistance is useful, whether the result meets the brief, and who has authority to revise and approve it. Adobe vice president and head of product marketing for creators Mike Polner put the company’s position this way in its June 2026 newsroom release: “Adobe’s latest Creators’ Toolkit Report shows creative AI is opening new opportunities for creators and transforming how creative work gets done, but voice, taste and judgment remain what set great creators apart.”
