All five are iamTheDev’s 2026 reporting. Quote them as “reported by the author”, not as confirmed company statistics. The post also names Dida Holdings (founded 2012, CEO Daryl Lee) as RollingGo’s backer, and that too rests on the post alone.

The six tactics, and how much weight each deserves
1. Go where intended users already search
The author advises concentrating on one relevant MCP marketplace instead of spreading thin across social channels. The post names ModelScope, which has a hot-list mechanism, and GitHub. The logic is sound: people browsing an MCP directory are already looking to install something. What is not established is how ModelScope calculates its hot list, or how much a given rank converts to installs. Copy the focus, not the assumption that a rank guarantees traffic.
2. Make the README answer pre-install questions
This is the post’s strongest theme, summed up in its line: “The README is your core investment during cold start.” Two changes are described: the title moved from a product name to a problem-oriented statement, and setup examples grew from one to four, covering Claude Desktop, Cursor, Codex and Cline.

A practical README checklist based on the post’s advice:
- Open with the problem the tool solves, not just its name.
- State access terms up front: how to get a key, what is free, what authentication is used.
- Give a copy-paste configuration for every client you claim to support.
- Add a short troubleshooting list for known first-run failures.
- Show a sample request and the kind of result a user should expect.
3. Answer user questions quickly
The author says prompt comment replies helped users and signaled activity to the marketplace. Replies plainly help the person asking. Whether they influence ranking or retention is not shown, so treat that as a hypothesis. Even without a ranking benefit, answers that expose gaps in your README are cheap feedback.

4. Cross-reference adjacent tools
RollingGo has a wider travel set, including flight and visa tools, and the post suggests unobtrusive links among them. The idea transfers if you have related tools, since a user who installs one is a warm prospect for another. The post does not quantify how many installs this produced. If you have only one tool, this tactic is not available to you.
5. Let the product substantiate the listing
The author argues that accurate, verifiable hotel availability and pricing earns trust, and that trust drives adoption. That is plausible for any MCP: a listing can win a first look, but a tool that returns empty or wrong results loses it. The post offers no reproducible test or dated dataset for RollingGo’s quality, so the claim stays an interpretation.

6. Don’t depend on one marketplace
The author flags ModelScope concentration as a limitation and suggests other MCP marketplaces as extra channels. The post does not evaluate their reach or terms. A hot-list position can move, so a README that also works on GitHub and elsewhere is a cheap hedge.

For RollingGo specifically, the post says users get self-service API keys, a permanent free call quota, no enterprise credentials requirement, and OAuth 2.1 authentication. Those are time-sensitive vendor terms taken from the article. Check RollingGo’s current documentation before relying on any of them.

- Use future dates for hotel searches; past dates won’t return useful availability.
- In Codex, configure the server with

Client behavior changes between versions, so test these against your own setup.
How to adapt this to your own MCP
- Pick the one directory where your users browse for MCP servers and optimize there first.
- Rewrite the title and first paragraph as the problem you solve.
- Write a config block for each client you support, and test each on a clean install.
- Document access terms (key, quota, auth) near the top.
- Add the failure modes you’ve seen, like the restart and date issues above.
- Reply to every question, then fold repeated questions back into the README.
- Link related tools briefly, if you have them.
- Record your own numbers (installs, calls, window, source) so your claims are verifiable, which is the gap in this case study.
Verdict: copy the habits, not the promise
The transferable part is a discipline: choose a high-intent channel, make the README remove every reason not to install, and respond to users. These cost time rather than money. What this post cannot tell you is that they produce a top-ten rank. It is a single-author account with unlinked metrics, no explanation of the ranking algorithm, and no isolation of causes. Use it as a checklist, and measure your own results.
