That is a technically feasible design, not proof that the unnamed editor in the title uses it. Without the editor’s identity, implementation details, or a network audit, its no-upload claim cannot be verified.
Can you edit a PDF without uploading it?
Yes. A browser-based editor can handle a PDF locally. In this design, you choose a file, the browser reads it into device memory, JavaScript performs the editing, and the browser generates a downloadable file. The document need not be sent to a server for those processing steps.

The technical building blocks exist: Mozilla describes PDF.js as a web standards-based platform for parsing and rendering PDFs, while pdf-lib documents JavaScript capabilities for creating and modifying PDF files, including operations such as splitting, merging, and filling forms. These are library capabilities; they do not establish which features any particular editor implements.

What does “can’t see your files” actually mean?
It is shorthand for a specific data flow: the selected PDF’s contents stay in the browser rather than being transmitted to a server for opening, editing, or export. The browser still has to read the file to work with it, so “can’t see” does not mean the file is inaccessible to the application running in the tab.
A local-processing claim also does not automatically cover every other kind of data. An app might transmit analytics or other telemetry, and filenames or page counts may be handled differently from document contents. A claim about the PDF’s bytes should not be treated as a blanket promise that the application sends no information at all.

Does this particular PDF editor store or upload files?
The title does not identify the editor or provide implementation details, test results, or an independent network audit. Its no-upload behavior therefore cannot be established from the title alone. A privacy statement can show what a vendor says about its own product, but it is not independent verification and cannot prove how a different editor works.
For example, PDF Overlay’s privacy page says: “Your documents are never uploaded. PDF Overlay opens, edits and saves your files entirely inside your browser, on your own device.” That statement is a claim about PDF Overlay, not evidence about the unnamed editor. To assess a specific editor, look for a current privacy statement that explains whether document contents are sent during opening, editing, or export, and whether filenames and telemetry are treated separately. Stronger confirmation would require checking the implementation or observing network behavior while using the editor. Neither a privacy label nor a vendor statement alone establishes that the product has been independently audited or guarantees a particular security outcome.

Not necessarily. Browser and version support varies, and PDF feature support can differ by environment. The fact that PDF.js or pdf-lib can parse, render, or modify PDFs does not mean a specific editor supports every browser, document, or editing task. Mozilla’s PDF.js FAQ and Getting Started page describe compatibility considerations; check the editor’s own current requirements as well.

Before relying on an editor for an important file, try it with a representative document and the browser you intend to use. Check that the pages render correctly and that the specific task you need—such as adding annotations, filling a form, or changing page order—is actually available, then open the downloaded result to confirm it is usable.
