How the reported PC connection works
In a first-person post in r/amazonecho, user PartiallyFrozen describes modifying a first-generation Echo Spot to display information from a PC. The account says a custom Android app runs on the Spot and communicates over Wi-Fi with a small PC tray or background application.

The poster says the display included CPU, memory, disk, and GPU telemetry, alongside items such as ComfyUI progress, voice transcription, clock and weather data, and coding-agent status. These are the poster’s claims, not independently verified results. The author also said the application and interface were real but that the demo video was synthetic or composited.

Wi-Fi for reporting; USB for modification
The account assigns different roles to the two connections: Wi-Fi for routine communication between the Spot and PC, and USB during unlocking and reprogramming. It does not describe the USB hardware path or say that reports are sent over USB.

Can you reproduce the Reddit setup?
Not from that post alone. It does not publish the original app or PC companion, explain their communication protocol, or provide setup instructions. In particular, it does not identify message formats, network ports, commands, drivers, cable or adapter requirements, or a reliable installation sequence. Supplying those details as if they came from the author would be guesswork.
The poster says traffic stays on the local network, but the implementation is not published in the post for independent inspection. The account therefore does not establish security, privacy, reliability, or compatibility beyond the author’s own description.

A separate route: TECHO5 Spot
TECHO5 Spot is a separate project for Linux firmware on the Echo Spot first generation (2017), identified by the project as codename rook and model VN94DQ / AEORK. Its goal and method differ from the Reddit PC dashboard: it describes a Linux and Home Assistant voice-satellite path, not the custom Android app and PC telemetry companion.
TECHO5 documents a route beginning with stock firmware, followed by unlocking and LineageOS before installing TECHO5 Linux. Its repository describes an installer for Windows, Linux, and macOS, a partition-backup tool, and USB serial-console support in its tooling. Those details belong to TECHO5’s own project; they do not supply missing instructions for the Reddit setup, and the two methods should not be treated as interchangeable.

Check the Echo Spot generation before proceeding
Both accounts concern the first-generation Echo Spot; TECHO5 explicitly targets the 2017 model. Neither source establishes compatibility with newer Echo Spot products. Confirm the exact device before following a modification project, and use only the instructions published for that project and model.
