Making a working user interface mandatory changed a Hangman kata from a test of game rules into a broader implementation exercise: the developers also had to choose how users interact with the game, how it is rendered, and how application state is managed. In three reported Codex runs using Seed4J CLI, all implementations passed the shared domain checks and complete browser journey, but they took different architectural paths. The experiment shows what changed in this set of runs—not which model is best or whether one prompt is enough.
What the UI requirement added
The game itself remained Hangman. What changed was the specification: a functional interface became a requirement rather than an optional presentation layer. That expanded the work from implementing game behavior to deciding how a player starts and plays a game, how progress appears on screen, and how the application represents and updates its state.

Renan Franca’s report describes this as a small experiment in Seed4J CLI-assisted development. The same underlying kata therefore became a test of both domain behavior and the choices needed to deliver a browser-facing experience.
Three runs chose two stack families
Franca compared three named Codex runs—Luna, Terra, and Sol. Each received one implementation prompt and the same Seed4J skill; there was no subsequent planning conversation or architectural direction. The reported environment was Seed4J CLI 0.0.4 and Seed4J runtime 2.2.0.

The scores and stack descriptions are Franca’s reported results in his September 9, 2026 article. Although Terra and Sol used the same broad stack family, Franca reports that their layouts, game flows, and visual identities differed. All three runs passed the shared domain checks and complete browser journey, according to the article.
How the Seed4J workflow unfolded
The runs used Seed4J CLI to inspect available modules and help, prepare a project plan, and apply the selected composition. The reported differences show where a plan can make choices reviewable—and where it cannot prevent an execution problem.

- Luna: Its first plan was rejected because it omitted required modules and included an unused option. No repository changes were made by that rejected preflight.
- Terra: Its plan was valid on the first attempt.
- Sol: Its plan was valid, but application stopped when a generated commit hook could not find
lint-staged. After inspecting the partial result, the run installed dependencies and retried.
In Franca’s account, plans exposed module dependencies, parameters, and execution order before changes; application history recorded what happened afterward. Sol’s interruption is a useful boundary on that benefit: a valid plan did not eliminate an environment failure during application. The workflow made decisions and progress more inspectable, but did not guarantee successful execution or high-quality output.

What the scores do—and do not—measure
The 33/35, 35/35, and 34/35 figures are scores in the Seed4J effectiveness category, not overall Codex or model rankings. Franca says that category covers discovery and help, preflight and planning, module selection and order, explicit parameters, history, and wrapper usage. The complete rubrics total 100 points and also assess areas such as specification correctness, tests, and design.

Because the reported values are workflow subscores, Terra’s higher figure means it scored higher on that category in this comparison; it does not establish that Terra produced the best implementation overall. Franca reports one run per model, and the experiment included no non-Seed4J control group. It therefore cannot establish general model behavior or show that Seed4J caused the different implementation choices or improved correctness.

The most useful takeaway is about the requirement, not a winner: once a UI was compulsory, a working Hangman implementation also needed decisions about interaction and presentation. The runs demonstrate that different stack choices could meet the reported shared behavior, while their paths through planning and execution remained distinct.

Franca characterizes the setup as a stress test of tool use under low collaboration, not as a recommended way to work with coding agents. As he puts it, “This experiment is not evidence that one prompt is enough.” His narrower conclusion is that “architectural freedom becomes reviewable before execution and traceable afterward.” Those are the author’s interpretations of three reported runs, rather than results from a broad benchmark.
