Hot Wheels Infinite Rush brings open-world arcade racing, collectible cars and track building to Nintendo Switch 2. Its colorful premise and approachable driving earn praise, but reviews disagree on performance and raise concerns about handling away from tracks, repetitive events and slow progression. It is a better fit for players drawn to the Hot Wheels world and casual racing than for anyone expecting precise handling or consistently brisk progression.
What Hot Wheels Infinite Rush offers on Switch 2
Nintendo lists Hot Wheels Infinite Rush as a digital Nintendo Switch 2 game released September 10, 2026, developed and published by Milestone. The game places its arcade races and challenges across four islands, with four vehicle classes and more than 150 collectible vehicles, according to Nintendo’s store listing. That vehicle count is a publisher-provided feature figure, not an independent tally.

Beyond racing, the advertised appeal is building and customizing a collection, exploring the islands and creating tracks with the Track Builder. The premise is distinctly playful: cars and courses draw on Hot Wheels’ toy-car fantasy rather than aiming for a simulation-style driving experience. Reviewers generally respond positively to the accessible arcade approach, colorful cars and variety of vehicle classes.

Reviews published in September 2026 are mixed rather than unanimous. Nintendo Life’s review roundup records scores from Push Square (6/10), Vooks (3.5/5), COGConnected (65/100), Cubed3 (7/10) and Hardcore Gamer (4.5/5). The range reflects different responses to the same central trade-off: a charming, accessible racing concept set in a large world that some reviewers found less satisfying to drive through and progress in.

Driving outside the dedicated tracks
The open-world format is the biggest point of friction. Nintendo Wire reviewer Matthew Powers praised the themed islands, vehicle variety and events, but criticized handling in open spaces. The roundup also reproduces Push Square’s view that the move to an open-world structure detracts from the experience. A game centered on free roaming asks players to drive on more than purpose-built tracks, so imprecise handling there can matter even if the races themselves are enjoyable.
Unlocks and repeated events
Reviewers also flag progression and repetition. Cubed3 reviewer Will Compton called the game a “really solid driving game” while pointing to frustrating progression and unlock choices. Nintendo Wire and Final Weapon both criticize repetitive campaign content. The collection of cars and multiple vehicle classes gives players things to pursue, but the reviews suggest that the route to those rewards may feel slow or too familiar for some.

Switch 2 performance: reviewers disagree
There is no settled performance verdict in the available reviews. Nintendo Wire reports 30 frames per second in handheld mode, along with long loading times, stutters and input lag; its reviewer says docked play did not materially improve the experience. Cubed3, by contrast, describes play as smooth in both handheld and docked modes, while also reporting long loads and one instance of texture pop-in.

Final Weapon’s Chris Sanchez reports long loading, freezes and two crashes at race starts during that review. Those are attributed observations from one reviewer, not evidence of a verified crash rate across players or systems. Final Weapon also discloses that Milestone and Mattel supplied its Switch 2 review key.

These impressions come from reviews published in September 2026. They are not a controlled performance comparison, and they may predate subsequent patches; no independent retest or patch-history verification is available here. Treat loading and performance as a genuine uncertainty rather than assuming either that every copy stutters or that the game runs smoothly for everyone.

Who should consider buying it?
- A good match: players who want colorful, accessible arcade racing, enjoy collecting cars, or are drawn to the Hot Wheels setting and track-building idea.
- Consider waiting: players who care most about precise handling across a free-roaming world, fast unlock progression, or a campaign that avoids repeated event patterns.
- Check before playing online: Nintendo lists online play for two to twelve Switch 2 users and requires Nintendo Switch Online. The local single-system option supports one to four players.
Hot Wheels Infinite Rush appears strongest as a playful collection-and-racing game, not as a polished open-world driving challenge. The mixed critical response and conflicting technical impressions make it hard to recommend without qualification: whether it clicks depends on how much the cars, world and casual arcade feel matter to you compared with handling precision and campaign pacing.
