Hostinger is the better fit for a conventional website or a modest store on a tight budget; Shopify is the better fit when selling is the business’s main job. Hostinger bundles a website builder with hosting and offers long-term introductory pricing. Shopify costs more, but its documented tools put greater emphasis on running commerce across online and in-person channels. This is a feature-based comparison, not a hands-on test.
Hostinger vs Shopify at a glance
| Decision | Hostinger | Shopify | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main use | General business site, portfolio, blog, or modest store | Online store or broader commerce operation | Whether your priority is publishing a site or managing sales |
| Pricing approach | Builder and hosting bundled, with advertised introductory prices tied to long prepaid terms | Commerce subscription with multiple tiers | Upfront payment, billing term, renewal price, taxes, and add-ons |
| Sales channels | Hostinger describes ecommerce and sales tools | Online store, social and marketplace selling, and in-person sales through Shopify POS | Required channels and availability in your country |
| Payment costs | Hostinger advertises 0% platform transaction fees on certain pages; payment-provider fees may still apply | Lists card-processing rates and separate third-party transaction fees | Which fees apply to your provider and plan |
| Retail operations | May suit a store with basic needs | Has a stronger documented focus on POS, staff, reporting, and retail features | Whether you need staff access, advanced reports, or retail hardware |
| Integrations | Bundled site setup and AI-assisted creation | Integrations with thousands of apps are listed on its pricing page | Whether a required app, customization, migration, or export is supported |
This framework does not establish feature parity or mean every function is included in every plan. Hostinger’s own comparison page, dated September 1, 2026, is useful for its stated side-by-side claims but is promotional; verify the details against the relevant plan pages. Hostinger’s plans and Shopify’s pricing can change.

Choose Hostinger for a website first, store second
Hostinger is worth considering if your main need is a business website, portfolio, or blog, and you want the builder and web hosting together. Its product information describes AI-assisted site generation and editing, product setup, store publishing, and ecommerce features. That makes it a plausible starting point for a small store, but check that the specific plan includes the selling features you need.

Choose Shopify when commerce operations matter most
Shopify is a stronger fit when the store is the core business rather than an extra feature on a website. Its US pricing page lists an online store, unlimited products, sales on social platforms and marketplaces, payment processing, integrations with thousands of apps, and in-person sales through Shopify POS. Shopify’s plan guidance positions Basic for new businesses, Grow for businesses needing features such as reports and additional staff accounts, and Advanced for high-volume businesses or those migrating from another platform.

Which one should a small business choose?
Pick Hostinger if
- You need a standard website, portfolio, or blog and only a modest store.
- You prefer a bundled builder-and-hosting setup and can commit to a longer prepaid term to get the advertised introductory rate.
- Your sales needs fit the ecommerce functions available on the specific Hostinger plan you are considering.
Pick Shopify if
- You are building a commerce operation and need a platform centered on selling.
- You plan to sell in person as well as online, or need the documented POS, staff, reporting, and app-integration options.
- You need a plan selected around expected sales volume and operational requirements, such as additional staff accounts or reports.
What to verify before signing up
- Write down your requirements: site pages, products, sales channels, staff access, reporting, and any retail setup.
- Check the exact plan page for those features; do not assume an advertised feature is included in every tier.
- Compare the full bill for the same period, including upfront payment, renewal, taxes, processing and transaction fees, apps, domains, and POS costs.
- Confirm country-specific payment availability, rates, and feature support with the provider.
- If you need physical retail hardware, verify compatibility for your exact Shopify POS setup. Shopify identifies barcode scanners and receipt printers as possible POS hardware, but compatibility depends on the setup.
