You pair the two by scanning a QR code with WhatsApp’s Linked devices feature. You can do this during onboarding or later from the OpenClaw dashboard’s Integrations section, and no separate device is needed.
What you need before you start
- An active Managed OpenClaw instance. Hostinger’s WhatsApp setup guide for Managed OpenClaw lists this as the first requirement.
- WhatsApp installed on a phone, signed in to an active account. The pairing uses the phone and account you already have.
- Access in your region. Hostinger says Managed OpenClaw is rolling out region by region, so check your account or dashboard to confirm the service is available to you. The Hostinger Managed OpenClaw overview and setup page gives the same caveat.
Option 1: Link WhatsApp during onboarding
If you are still in the Managed OpenClaw setup flow, you can connect WhatsApp before the dashboard is ready. Hostinger’s onboarding offers WhatsApp, Telegram, and Hostinger Email as channels. You can skip channel configuration and return to it later. Discord is marked as under development in the same documentation, so do not expect it at this step.

- In the Hostinger onboarding flow, select WhatsApp as the channel.
- Follow the pairing prompt. If no QR code is displayed, click Generate QR.
- On the phone, open WhatsApp and go to Settings (labelled You in some versions) > Linked devices > Link a device.
- Scan the QR code shown on the screen.
- After the link is confirmed, send “Hi” to the assistant.
Option 2: Link WhatsApp after deployment
If the instance is already running, use the dashboard. The steps below follow the order in Hostinger’s guide.
- Open the OpenClaw dashboard for your Managed OpenClaw instance.
- Go to Integrations and select WhatsApp.
- Click Generate QR to display a pairing code.
- On the phone, open WhatsApp and go to Settings (You) > Linked devices > Link a device.
- Scan the displayed QR code with the phone.
- Send “Hi” to the assistant to start a conversation.
Menu labels can shift between WhatsApp app versions. If a label differs on your phone, look for the Linked devices option under Settings and the Link a device action inside it.

Confirm the assistant responds
Hostinger’s guide ends the flow with the instruction, “Say Hi to your app to start interacting.” Sending “Hi” is the simplest test that the link works. If the assistant does not reply, check the WhatsApp connection state in the Integrations section before repeating the pairing.
Troubleshooting Managed OpenClaw connections
For Managed OpenClaw, start in the dashboard. Check the WhatsApp connection state under Integrations. If it is not connected, generate a new QR code and scan it again using the phone steps above.

VPS-only advice (not for Managed OpenClaw)
Hostinger’s detailed WhatsApp troubleshooting page, for OpenClaw on Hostinger VPS, covers a different deployment. Do not apply its container commands to a Managed OpenClaw instance. The steps below apply only if you run OpenClaw on a VPS:

- Pairing requests expire after one hour, and no more than three pending requests are allowed per channel.
- If the connection drops, keep the phone online and charged.
- The VPS guide says a regular WhatsApp account is sufficient and WhatsApp Business is not required. It recommends a separate number where possible, while noting that personal-number setups are supported.
Managed or VPS: how the choice affects this setup
Hostinger’s OpenClaw documentation presents managed deployment and VPS installation as separate options. On the managed route, Hostinger handles infrastructure and automatic updates, and Hostinger says the service also automates infrastructure updates and security settings. The VPS route gives you more server control and is managed through Docker Manager. If you want the managed route described here, follow this guide.
