Hostinger AI Builder: How to Connect Google Tag Manager in Manual Mode

Add your GTM container ID in Hostinger AI Builder’s integrations settings, update the site, then preview and publish tag changes separately in Google Tag Manager.

To connect Google Tag Manager (GTM) to a Hostinger AI Builder site in manual mode, copy the site’s GTM- container ID, add it in Hostinger’s integrations settings, save, and update the website. You do not paste Google’s two installation snippets for this Hostinger integration-field method. GTM tags still need to be previewed and published separately in Google Tag Manager.

Before you start: get the right GTM container ID

Sign in to Google Tag Manager and select the container for the website you want to connect. Copy its container ID, which starts with GTM- followed by letters or numbers. Hostinger’s integration field takes this container ID—not your Google account password or a GA4 measurement ID. See Hostinger’s manual-mode setup instructions.

Add the container ID in Hostinger AI Builder

  1. Open the website in Hostinger AI Builder.
  2. Open the site’s integrations settings and find Google Tag Manager.
  3. Paste the GTM- container ID into the field.
  4. Save the setting, then update the website to apply the change.

Do you need to paste Google’s code snippets?

Not for the documented Hostinger manual-mode integration. That procedure connects the site through the GTM container ID field. Google’s generic web-container installation guide also describes installing two snippets—one high in the page’s <head> and another immediately after the opening <body> tag—but notes that website builders may provide an integration instead. Do not treat those generic direct-install steps as Hostinger’s ID-field procedure.

Set up and publish tags in Google Tag Manager

Connecting the container in Hostinger does not configure or publish the tags inside it. If you need to add a Google tag, Google’s instructions are to create a tag, enter its tag ID, choose a trigger, and save. The guide recommends “Initialization – All pages” for the Google tag; choose triggers appropriate to the specific tag and purpose. See Google’s instructions for adding the Google tag.

  1. In Google Tag Manager, use Preview to open Tag Assistant, enter your website URL, and connect to the site.
  2. Check the tag behavior in the preview before releasing the changes.
  3. When ready, submit and publish the GTM container version to make its changes live.

These are two separate updates: Hostinger’s site update applies the integration setting, while publishing the container in GTM releases the tag changes. Google documents the preview and publication flow in its verify-and-publish guide.

GTM or Hostinger’s direct Google Analytics integration?

Use GTM when you want to manage tags—such as analytics, conversion tracking, or remarketing—from Tag Manager. If your goal is only to connect Google Analytics directly, Hostinger documents a separate manual-mode integration that uses a GA4 measurement ID rather than a GTM container ID. The available integrations and GTM use cases are outlined in Hostinger’s integrations guide; the separate Analytics procedure is in Hostinger’s Google Analytics setup guide.
