In iOS 27, you can search compatible Home camera recordings using natural language after enabling Apple Intelligence and video descriptions for each camera in the Home app. The feature requires an eligible iPhone, a compatible home hub and a 2 TB iCloud+ plan; Apple does not document the exact search controls or supported phrases.
Check that your home meets the requirements
Apple lists these requirements for Apple Intelligence descriptions and natural-language search of Home camera recordings:

- An Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone: Apple’s iOS 27 guide lists iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or an iPhone 16 model or later.
- A home hub, such as HomePod (2nd generation), HomePod mini, or Apple TV 4K, running the latest operating system software.
- Apple Intelligence enabled in the Home app.
- A 2 TB iCloud+ plan.
Apple says Apple Intelligence availability varies by language and region, and usage limits may apply. Device support and availability can change, so check Apple’s current iOS 27 feature guide for your region and devices. If you already have qualifying hardware, you do not need to buy another iPhone or home hub.
Turn on video descriptions for each camera
- On the eligible iPhone, open the Home app.
- On the Home tab, tap More, then Home Settings.
- Turn on Apple Intelligence.
- Enable video descriptions for each compatible camera you want analyzed.
Apple documents this setup path, but does not specify how long descriptions take to become available. Once descriptions are available, you can search recordings using natural language.

Search recordings with a description
After enabling descriptions, look for the natural-language search option in the Home camera experience and describe the event you want to find. For example, “show me the delivery” is an illustrative phrase, not search syntax Apple has confirmed. Apple’s guide confirms natural-language search but does not spell out the search screen, button labels, accepted wording, or how results are ranked. If a query does not surface a clip, try browsing the camera timeline instead.

Manual browsing is useful when natural-language search is unavailable or you have a good sense of when the event happened. Apple’s standard camera workflow is:

- Open the camera tile in the Home app.
- Swipe the timeline at the bottom to move through recordings.
- Tap a clip to play it. Tap Live to return to the live camera view.
If the camera is configured to detect specific motion, timeline symbols can identify people, animals, vehicles, and packages. An Unanalyzed Video badge means the clip was recorded but specific-motion analysis was not performed. Apple says this can happen when there are more cameras than capable Home Hubs can analyze. Know how long recordings remain available
Apple says HomeKit Secure Video makes the last 10 days of activity available in Home. Camera limits for the general HomeKit Secure Video service depend on the iCloud+ plan: the iCloud User Guide lists one camera on 50 GB, up to five on 200 GB, and unlimited cameras on 2 TB and above. Recorded video does not count against iCloud storage. These general camera limits do not replace the separate 2 TB requirement Apple lists for Apple Intelligence camera descriptions.

Understand Apple’s privacy description
Apple’s Platform Security guide, published February 18, 2021, describes HomeKit Secure Video clips as analyzed on the home hub, encrypted before upload, and decrypted locally when viewed. Apple says HomeKit provides an end-to-end secure mechanism to record, analyze, and view clips “without exposing that video content to Apple or any third party.” This is the architecture described in that 2021 guide; it should not be read as documentation of every implementation detail in iOS 27.
