For straight cuts in rigid materials
The KB4-WS has a wide serrated saw profile, which OLFA positions for straight cuts in rigid materials such as plastic, balsa and basswood. It is a specialist alternative for work such as modelmaking, dioramas and mixed media—not a substitute for the general art blade when your main task is detailed paper cutting. Its documented compatible handle is the AK-4.
For a limited-exposure beginner option
OLFA describes the ESKB-1 as having a plastic covering intended to limit exposed blade. That is a specific design feature, not a guarantee that the knife is risk-free. The replacement blade is for the ESK-1 only, so it is not an interchangeable upgrade for the AK-4 or AK-1/5B.

When to replace a blade
There is no fixed replacement interval established for these blades. X-ACTO says blade life varies with the material: cardboard or foam board may require very frequent changes, while paper generally allows longer use. It also recommends frequent replacement to help maintain precision. Use cut quality and the material you are working with as your cues rather than relying on a universal calendar or cut count. Dispose of used blades carefully
X-ACTO recommends using its blade dispenser for disposal and also suggests wrapping a spent blade in tape before discarding it. Disposal rules vary by location; check local requirements rather than assuming that either method overrides them. Keep used blades contained so they cannot injure someone handling waste.
