Choose where you want the videos

Quik is the app-based route for moving footage to a phone. A card reader is a computer-oriented alternative that does not require transferring through the phone.

Download camera footage to your phone with Quik
Wireless transfer
- Connect your GoPro to Quik using the connection flow supported by your camera and app.
- Open the camera’s media view in Quik.
- Tap Download, then select the footage you want to save.
GoPro’s current MAX instructions describe this general sequence: connect, open the camera’s media, tap Download, and select files as needed. Labels and screens can vary across camera models and Quik versions, so follow the prompts shown for your setup. See GoPro Support.

Wired transfer
GoPro describes wired transfer in its HERO12 Black Creator Edition guidance as faster and more reliable than wireless transfer, but does not publish measured speeds. You need a suitable cable or adapter, which GoPro says is not included in that guidance, and Quik prompts you through the transfer. The correct combination depends on the phone’s port:

Copy GoPro videos to a computer
- Turn off the camera and remove its SD card.
- Insert the card into a compatible computer slot or card reader.
- Copy the video files from the card to a folder on the computer.
If your computer already has a suitable card slot, you do not need a separate reader. Make sure the reader matches both the card and the computer’s port.

HERO (2024) stabilization caveat: GoPro says files copied directly from that camera’s SD card to a computer will not be stabilized. If you want stabilized footage from this model, GoPro instructs users to apply its Quik HyperSmooth workflow before saving. This guidance is specific to the HERO (2024) workflow and should not be generalized to every GoPro model. See GoPro Support.
Use GoPro cloud upload if it is available to you
GoPro documents automatic cloud upload as a subscription feature. Its setup guidance says to connect the camera during setup and keep it powered for the upload; the cited automatic-upload option operates within the home Wi-Fi network and is limited to supported territories. Check GoPro’s current availability and subscription terms for your location before relying on it. See GoPro Support.

Check the transfer before clearing the card
- Open the downloaded or copied files at their destination and confirm they play before deleting anything from the card.
- If a Quik transfer fails, check that the camera is connected in the app and that the selected cable and adapter match the phone’s ports.
- For a card-reader copy, confirm that the computer recognizes the card and that the files were copied to the intended folder.
Menu names and connection steps can differ by camera generation and app build, so use the prompts for your model rather than assuming every GoPro shows the same screens.
