As reported on October 12, 2026, the company was investigating online claims of a potential cybersecurity incident involving a limited scope of H&M Group data. A spokesperson said H&M had found no indication at that point that its data environment was compromised. The claims, any access to company systems and any exposure of customer information remain unverified in the reviewed reporting.
What H&M has said
An H&M Group spokesperson told The Times, in a statement reported by The Independent, that the company was aware of online claims about a potential cybersecurity incident involving a “limited scope” of its data. The spokesperson said H&M was investigating to assess whether the claims were valid and had “so far” found no indication that its data environment had been compromised.

The spokesperson also said that protecting the company’s systems and data was important and that H&M could not provide further details while its investigation continued. Separately, TheIndustry.fashion reported a similar statement: H&M was investigating information circulating online and had not found indications of compromise at that time. The reviewed reports attribute these statements to H&M representatives; they do not include a direct H&M newsroom announcement.
Has H&M been hacked, and was data stolen?
The available reporting does not establish that H&M was breached or that ShinyHunters accessed or took data from its systems. H&M’s description of a possible incident as involving a “limited scope” of company data is not confirmation that anyone accessed or removed that data. Its statement that it had no indication of compromise describes the company’s position at the time, not a final investigation result.

Accordingly, there is no verified answer in these reports to what data was stolen or whether H&M customers were affected.
What is known, and what remains uncertain
- Known: H&M was investigating claims as of October 12, 2026, according to contemporaneous coverage.
- Known: A spokesperson said the company had not found indications that its data environment was compromised at the time of the statement.
- Not established: Whether an intrusion occurred, whether data was accessed or exfiltrated, or whether ShinyHunters was responsible.
- Not established: Which information or systems might be involved, how many people could be affected, or whether H&M later notified individuals or authorities.
The Independent reported that the UK Information Commissioner’s Office had not received a report as of Monday lunchtime. That is a time-bounded detail in secondary reporting, not a current statement from the regulator and not proof that no report was filed later.

How the separate ASOS report fits
TheIndustry.fashion also reported a separate incident at ASOS. ASOS said it was investigating unauthorized activity involving third-party platforms used to communicate with customers. The company said names, contact details and certain account information may have been accessed, while payment card details and passwords were not believed to be compromised. It also said its website and app continued to operate normally and that it had restricted access to the affected notification platforms.
That report concerns ASOS, not H&M. The coverage does not establish a shared intrusion or causal connection between the two incidents.

What customers can do while the investigation is ongoing
Because the reviewed reports do not confirm an H&M breach or identify exposed data, customers should not assume their account information was taken. They can still take low-risk precautions:
- Check H&M’s official communications and account notices for any specific instructions or confirmed update.
- Be cautious with unexpected messages claiming to be about an H&M incident. Do not follow links or provide login details in response; go to the company’s site or app directly instead.
- If you reused an H&M password on other services, change it on those services and use a different password for each account. This is a general account-security precaution, not evidence that H&M credentials were exposed.
- Watch for further reporting that distinguishes an allegation from a company or regulator confirmation and specifies what data, if any, was affected.
How to assess future updates
The current company statement is an interim status, not a final finding. If new information appears, check who is making the claim, when it was made and whether H&M or a regulator has confirmed it. Look for concrete distinctions between access to a system and removal of data, as well as any named data types, affected people and notification steps. A claim about a third-party service should not automatically be treated as a breach of H&M’s own systems.
