Special dialer codes can open handset-specific diagnostic screens or trigger carrier services, but what happens depends on the phone, software, dialer, carrier and region. And some menus people call “hidden” aren’t opened by dialing a number at all.
What happens when you dial a secret phone code?
A phone may recognize a sequence entered in its dialer and display a diagnostic or service screen, or send a request related to a mobile network. Those are different functions: a screen that reports information about the handset is not the same as a code that interacts with a carrier service.

Secondary guides describe these sequences as manufacturer- and software-dependent; network-related behavior may also depend on the SIM, carrier and region. There is no established, authoritative cross-brand list that confirms which codes work on every current phone. Treat any code as model-specific unless reliable instructions for your exact device and carrier say otherwise.

Samsung’s official Galaxy instructions describe a way to reveal Developer options through Settings. The steps are for Galaxy phones and tablets, not a universal Android secret-code menu. Samsung notes that screens and available options vary by device and operating system.

- Open Settings.
- Tap About phone, then Software information.
- Tap Build number seven times. Enter your security credentials if prompted.
- Return to Settings. Developer options should now appear.
Samsung says Developer options are advanced settings that generally aren’t useful to average users. The company also warns that their use is not supported by Samsung and may affect phone performance. Don’t change a setting unless you understand its purpose and know how to reverse it. Samsung’s instructions for enabling Developer options were last updated March 7, 2026.
How to check a dialer code before trying it
- Confirm the exact device: Look for instructions naming your phone model and software version, not just “Android.”
- Check the code’s purpose: Find out whether it opens a local diagnostic screen or requests a network service. Avoid codes with unclear effects.
- Account for carrier and region: Network-related codes may behave differently across carriers and countries.
- Use a trustworthy source: Prefer the phone maker or carrier’s own documentation. Secondary code lists do not establish compatibility for every handset or software build.
- Stop if the result is unexpected: Don’t confirm prompts or change unfamiliar settings. If a code appears to alter a carrier service, contact the carrier for help.
Secondary reporting on Samsung MMI codes also notes that network-related behavior can vary by carrier and region. That is not a guarantee that any listed code works on a particular Galaxy model. Verify the instructions for your phone before entering a code.

Why “the number” may not work on your phone
Dialer codes are not a single standard menu shared by all phones. A handset maker’s software, Android build, dialer app, SIM and carrier can affect whether a sequence is recognized and what it does. Even within one brand, a code or menu may differ by model or software version. No complete, official cross-device compatibility matrix is established here, so a code circulating online should not be assumed to be universal or harmless.
