But the public Amico product information does not specify an event-streaming contract or explain how face templates synchronize across readers. Treat real-time delivery and template synchronization as requirements to confirm with HID for the exact Amico firmware, part number, and access-control platform—not as capabilities established by the published interface and capacity figures.
What HID publicly specifies about Amico
HID’s Amico product information describes a facial-recognition reader with two 1080p cameras, one visible and one infrared. Depending on model, it has a 3.5-inch or 7-inch display; the 7-inch reader includes a built-in SIP intercom. Listed authentication methods are face, HF/LF credential, HID Mobile Access, QR code, and PIN, which HID says can be combined for multifactor authentication.

| Specification | What HID lists | What the figure does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum users | Up to 200,000 users, according to HID’s product page accessed in 2026. | It does not specify how the user count maps to face credentials, licenses, or a particular deployment configuration. |
| Face-credential capacity | 10,000, extendable to 100,000 with an additional license or a specified pre-installed part number, according to HID’s product page accessed in 2026. | Confirm the exact license and part number; the higher figure should not be assumed for every reader. |
| Event log | Capacity of 200,000 entries, according to HID’s product page accessed in 2026. | Capacity alone does not state event rate, retention time, export method, continuous push, replay, or delivery guarantees. |
| Communications | OSDP V2.2, one RS-485 port for an external access module or OSDP, and native 10/100 Mbps Ethernet. | These interfaces do not define the Amico API, event transport, payloads, or template synchronization behavior. |
These are manufacturer-listed specifications, not independently measured performance results. HID says Amico integrates with existing access-control systems through an API, but the public product information does not give endpoint definitions, event schemas, authentication details, subscription methods, or ordering and recovery semantics. It also does not publish a recognition-accuracy or event-stream latency figure in the material reviewed.
Separate event delivery from template management
Plan for two distinct data flows. An access-event flow reports outcomes such as a granted or denied attempt to the systems that need to act on or audit it. A biometric-template flow handles enrollment and changes to the data used for face matching. They may involve different services, credentials, permissions, and recovery procedures. Do not assume that an API described as integrating Amico with an access-control system handles both flows, or handles them in the same way.

Event flow: confirm the actual source and transport
HID’s published Amico information does not establish whether events are pushed directly from a reader, retrieved by polling, supplied by a controller or access-control platform, or exposed through another documented interface. Choose among those patterns only after HID and the platform vendor confirm the supported Amico-specific integration path.
- Documented push or callback, if supported: Receive events at an integration service, validate the sender, and durably record each accepted event before forwarding it to downstream systems.
- Documented polling, if supported: Track a vendor-supported cursor or checkpoint and define how the poller handles overlapping reads, gaps, and restarts.
- Controller or platform feed, if supported: Treat that system as the event source and verify whether it preserves the fields, identifiers, and outcomes your applications require.
These are conditional architecture options, not claims that Amico supports webhooks, a message broker, a particular SDK, or a specific protocol. HID Origo documentation describes on-demand event reads and near-real-time webhooks for Origo; it is a separate platform and is not evidence of Amico callback support.
Template flow: identify where the authoritative record lives
HID describes optional Template on Card as storing biometric data on a user’s credential rather than in a centralized database. The product information also lists face-credential capacity for Amico, but does not fully document the enrollment or synchronization workflow associated with that capacity. It does not establish whether templates are centrally managed, distributed to multiple readers, or stored in a particular format.

Before designing the template path, determine which system is authoritative for enrollment and how updates and revocations reach every relevant credential or reader. Also establish what happens when a credential is lost, a reader is offline, an update fails partway through, or an operator needs to recover a user’s access. The answers may differ between Template on Card and any reader-resident workflow; the public product description does not provide enough detail to rank either mode as categorically more secure or operationally superior.

Build for reliable event processing only after semantics are confirmed
A reader’s ability to communicate over Ethernet and its stated event-log capacity are not a delivery contract. Before depending on events for alarms, access decisions, audit records, or analytics, obtain the Amico-specific behavior for identifiers, ordering, buffering, acknowledgments, retries, replay, and loss recovery. In particular, ask whether the 200,000-entry log can be exported or replayed through a documented interface and what happens when it fills or the network is interrupted.
Once the supported interface is confirmed, a conservative integration design can keep reader communication separate from downstream processing:

- Ingest through the confirmed interface. Use only the Amico API, controller feed, or other method documented for the deployed product and firmware. Do not infer a transport from the Ethernet specification.
- Validate and preserve the source record. Check the documented schema and authentication mechanism, retain the original event fields needed for audit, and record the source device and receipt time where available.
- Persist before fan-out. Write accepted events to durable storage before delivering them to multiple applications. This limits the chance that a downstream outage also loses the integration’s only copy.
- Handle duplicates and gaps according to documented identifiers and replay rules. Do not assume events are unique, ordered, or replayable until the vendor specifies those behaviors.
- Monitor health and reconcile. Track connectivity, ingestion failures, and any documented sequence or checkpoint indicators. Test recovery against the actual interface and access-control platform rather than treating a successful network connection as proof of complete event capture.
This design is an integration pattern, not a HID reference architecture or product guarantee. The event source, buffering boundary, and recovery method depend on the contract HID and the access-control platform provide.

Keep privacy and security claims within their evidence
HID states that Amico meets applicable privacy and security controls in line with industry practices and regulatory requirements, and presents Template on Card as an option that keeps biometric data on the user’s credential rather than in a centralized database. Those vendor statements do not establish compliance for a particular jurisdiction or deployment, nor do they specify a complete threat model, encryption algorithm, retention schedule, or system-wide privacy outcome.
For each storage and integration path, document who can enroll, read, update, or revoke biometric data; how API and network access are authenticated; how keys and credentials are managed; what audit records are produced; and how lost credentials, offline readers, and terminated users are handled. Confirm which controls are supported by the relevant Amico firmware and management platform instead of assuming they are implied by the interface list.

Do not transfer behavior from other HID products
HID’s Biometric Manager Administration Guide, revision B.3 from August 2022, describes a background Reader Service and real-time transaction viewing for Signo 25B devices. HID’s Signo 25B product information also describes fingerprint enrollment and pushing templates to connected Signo readers. Those details concern Signo, not Amico, and do not establish Amico face-template synchronization.
Likewise, HID Origo’s Events and Callbacks documentation describes event APIs and webhooks for Origo, not Amico edge readers. These sources may help identify questions to ask about other HID systems, but their behavior must not be assigned to Amico without explicit Amico-specific confirmation.
Quick Recap
Questions to resolve with HID and the platform vendor
- Which versioned Amico API or SDK supports event retrieval or subscription, and which firmware and access-control platform versions are compatible?
- Are events delivered by push callback, polling, a controller or platform feed, or another documented interface? What event types and payload schemas are supported?
- What are the guarantees for ordering, identifiers, retries, buffering, acknowledgments, replay, and recovery after a network interruption? Can the 200,000-entry event log be exported or replayed, and under what conditions?
- How are face templates enrolled, stored, distributed, updated, and revoked across multiple Amico readers? Is centralized face-template synchronization supported?
- Which template formats and key-management boundaries apply to each storage mode? What happens during offline operation, and which actions appear in audit records?
- Which API authentication and network-security controls are supported for the exact firmware and deployment?
- What are the exact display-size availability, capacity, license, and part-number options for the target region? HID’s product page described the 3.5-inch model as available in most countries across Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East, with North American availability planned for 2026; it described the 7-inch model as planned globally for early 2026. Those dated plans do not guarantee current stock or regional availability.
