Hetzner Online is a worthwhile option for technically capable users who want cloud servers or rented dedicated hardware at comparatively accessible prices, and who are prepared to run the systems themselves. It is not a fully managed hosting service by default. Two things changed in 2026 that every buyer should check first: a price adjustment that took effect for new orders on June 15, 2026, and a billing model in which cloud resources keep costing money until you delete them.
Who Hetzner suits
Hetzner fits readers who already know how to provision a Linux server, secure it, patch it, and restore it from backup. Its cloud and dedicated products give you administrator access, and the provider’s own documentation makes clear that operating systems, software, security configuration, backups, and applications are generally your responsibility. Hetzner states that technical support beyond the service description may be billed separately, and only with prior agreement.

If you need someone else to handle patching, monitoring, or incident response, Hetzner’s standard products are the wrong starting point unless you budget for outside administration help.
Cloud or dedicated: the first decision
Hetzner Cloud provides virtual servers billed by time or by month. Dedicated servers provide rented physical server capacity. The two differ in billing, cancellation, and the support you can expect, so compare them before looking at specifications.

Before choosing either model, confirm the intended region, required CPU, memory, and storage, the current price and setup fee, traffic and IP charges, and how much administration you can handle. The order page is the authority for current availability and final pricing.
Pricing after the June 15, 2026 change
Hetzner’s official pricing document says the adjustment took effect for new orders and cloud instance rescales on June 15, 2026 at 8:00 CEST. Prices in the English table exclude VAT. As one example from that table, the Germany/Finland CX23 cloud plan rose from €3.99 to €5.49 per month. Cloud and dedicated prices vary by model and currency, so check the final checkout total, including tax, IP charge, and setup fee, before you commit.
Standard dedicated configurations
Hetzner describes a standardized dedicated server portfolio with fixed configurations marked with the suffixes “-1”, “-2”, or “-3”. Limited-quantity variants may use “-1-Ltd”. According to Hetzner’s FAQ, the initial standard configurations were based on popular hardware and add-ons that represent approximately 90% of all orders. That figure is Hetzner’s own account rather than an independently audited statistic. Custom configurations can still be requested, although Hetzner says it is moving toward more standardization there too.
Existing servers
Hetzner said that rented servers were not affected by the June adjustment, and that the changes apply to new orders, rescales, and future products that use the new structure. Its documentation also notes that some changes to legacy-price servers may cause current pricing to apply. Do not assume an existing server will keep its old rate indefinitely; read the terms that apply to your contract.
Billing: what keeps charging
Cloud resources are billed for as long as they exist, even when powered off. To stop a Cloud server’s charges, delete the server object. Dedicated servers and colocation are billed monthly and must be actively cancelled. This makes short-lived test environments practical only if you remember to remove them, and to check any attached services such as IP addresses, which carry their own charges.
Support scope
Hetzner’s support page lists general customer-service phone hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 to 18:00 CET. It lists 24-hour data-center technical support for dedicated servers and colocation in Nuremberg, Falkenstein, and Helsinki. Telephone support is limited to customers with an activated telephone password or one-time password. The page also points users to documentation, tutorials, a community forum, and a status page.
Do not plan around 24-hour telephone support for Cloud servers. The support page reviewed does not list it, and you should confirm the current scope before you rely on it for production work.

Hetzner’s Cloud and vServer SLA is part of the service agreement. It describes availability terms for virtual machines and compensation for eligible outages, calculated from the affected server’s hourly rate. That is a contractual remedy with stated conditions. It is not a promise that outages will not happen, and it does not replace your own backups or a resilient design.

Half of the reviews were five-star and 39% were one-star. Reviewers praise performance and value, while others complain about support and pricing.
These aggregates reflect self-selected platform reviews. They describe customer sentiment, not measured uptime, performance, or a representative survey of the service. Use them to understand what buyers experience, not to judge reliability.
A checklist before you order
- Choose Cloud or dedicated based on billing and how you will shut down unused resources.
- Confirm the region and the exact configuration on the live order page, including the “-1”, “-2”, “-3”, or “-1-Ltd” suffix for dedicated plans.
- Calculate the total with VAT, IP charges, and setup fees, not only the headline monthly price.
- Write a plan for your own patching, monitoring, backups, and restore testing.
- Note which support channel applies to your product, and whether you have an activated telephone or one-time password.
- Set a reminder to delete test cloud servers or cancel dedicated servers you no longer need.
Is Hetzner a good value after the price change?
It can be, for the right buyer. The June 2026 adjustment raised some list prices for new orders, so older price comparisons are no longer reliable. Hetzner remains a sensible choice for administrators who can operate their own infrastructure and who weigh the lower headline prices against the limited managed support. If you need hands-on help, budget for it separately.

Choose Hetzner if you are comfortable administering your own servers, want a region and configuration that fits your workload, and will manage billing carefully. Verify the current price on the live order page, because the June 15, 2026 change applies to new orders and rescales, and plan your own backups and support rather than relying on a managed service.
