What the comparison does—and does not—mean
These are U.S. manufacturer prices
The figures are in U.S. dollars and compare Sony’s launch price with its recommended retail price, not a guaranteed checkout price. A retailer’s price, promotion, bundle, or available stock can differ. Sony’s 2026 announcement gives separate prices for the U.K., Europe, and Japan; U.S. prices should not be applied to other regions.

- Model Number CFI-2000
- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)

The Pro is a separate product
Sony also lists the PS5 Pro at $899.99 in its 2026 U.S. price announcement. It is a separate, higher-tier model, not a continuation of either base-edition price in the table, so it is excluded from this like-for-like comparison.

In the March 27, 2026 announcement, Isabelle Tomatis, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Vice President, Global Marketing, wrote: “With continued pressures in the global economic landscape, we’ve made the decision to increase the prices of PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal remote player globally.” That is Sony’s stated explanation; the announcement alone does not independently establish the causes or measure their effect on console prices.
