If you mean that speech does not match the picture, the issue is audio/video synchronization (lip sync), and the relevant control—if your equipment offers one—may be called AV Sync, A/V Sync, Audio Delay or Lip Sync. Its name and effect vary by TV, soundbar, receiver and signal path.
What an HDMI delay setting does—and what it does not
An audio-delay control adjusts timing to help align sound with the picture. It is not a universal HDMI delay scale, and finding the control does not prove that the HDMI cable is faulty. The mismatch can arise anywhere in the signal path: Google TV Help notes that AV receivers and soundbars may add delay while processing a signal (Google TV Help).

Direction matters. If audio reaches you before the matching picture, adding audio delay may help. If sound already trails the picture, adding more audio delay could make the mismatch worse. Manufacturers’ guidance is model-specific; the available sources establish no cross-brand setting convention or ideal millisecond value.

- 【HDMI Audio Extractor】The HDMI audio extractor can extract audio from HDMI signal and transmit it to AV receiver through optical or 3.5mm Cable.(Note: Devices do not support ARC and eARC.TV is not supported as the input source, otherwise product doesn't p video.)
- 【3 modes】2.0CH, 5.1CH and PASS mode. Select 3.5mm stereo output, please use 2.0CH mode. Select optical output, please use 5.1CH mode. When you use the first and two modes and find that no audio and video signal is output, use the pass mode.
- 【4K Ultra-HD with HDMI 1.4V】HDMI audio converter up to 10.2G bandwidth, support HDCP1.4,4K@30Hz RGB / YUV4:4:4 Ultra high definition image quality. The optical output supports DTS 5.1. The 3.5mm output supports PCM2.0. The audio splitter does not support 7.1 channels.Note: Fire TV, Apple TV, PS4/5 etc. only support 1080p format signals and do not support 4K
- 【Low energy consumption】HDMI audio splitter has a low energy consumption, only requires the USB port to be connected to the 5V-USB port of another device to work. Or use your other 5V-USB power adapter
- 【Wide Compatibility & Plug and Play】Suitable for various HDMI source devices without dedicated audio output as well as Blu-ray/ DVD/ HD player, cable/satellite box, Amazon Fire TV, PS4,PS5, Xbox, PC/laptop etc
- Try another channel or program in the same app.
- Try a different app or input on the TV.
- If possible, play the same content through another source device.
If only one channel or source is affected, avoid treating a TV-wide adjustment as the first fix: that adjustment may throw other content out of sync.
Check the HDMI audio route and sync controls
Identify which device is producing the sound—TV speakers, a soundbar or an AV receiver—and how it connects. For TV audio sent to an external system over HDMI, verify that the cable is connected to the designated ARC or eARC ports on both devices. Sony recommends checking those connections and the external system’s sync controls when relevant (Sony TV audio-delay guidance). Google TV Help also recommends the TV’s ARC/eARC connection for returning audio to a receiver or soundbar.

Look in the manuals or settings for the TV and audio device for labels such as AV Sync, A/V Sync, Audio Delay or Lip Sync. Names and menu paths differ by model. LG documents controls including AV Sync Adjustment and TV Speaker Delay; a Denon AVC-X6500H manual documents Audio Delay and Auto Lip Sync features. These are examples, not universal menu instructions.

Adjust one control at a time
- Choose a repeatable test. Use the same scene or a sync test, and keep the same source, audio output and connection while troubleshooting.
- Start with the device producing audio. Check its audio-delay or lip-sync control first, then consult the TV manual for any matching setting. Use the route and control documented for your exact model.
- Make a small change in the appropriate direction. If sound is early, try a small increase in audio delay. If sound is late, do not increase that delay; check the devices’ manuals for another available correction.
- Replay the same segment after each adjustment. TCL recommends playing a video after each troubleshooting step. Changing only one setting at a time makes it easier to tell whether the change helped.
- Undo changes that worsen sync. Return a setting to its previous value before testing a different control, rather than stacking adjustments whose effects are unclear.
Manufacturer instructions provide device-specific procedures rather than a universal target number. If the controls do not resolve the issue, use the support guide for your exact TV, soundbar or receiver model.

Account for gaming responsiveness
For games, synchronization is only part of the experience: processing intended to align sound and picture can affect how responsive play feels. Sony warns that its A/V Sync setting may delay picture output and make responsiveness feel slower during gaming (Sony’s A/V Sync guidance). Test the setting with the exact TV, game source and audio setup you use; do not assume one configuration suits every system.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When replacement hardware is worth considering
Do not begin by buying a receiver or a new HDMI cable. First confirm the affected source, connection and available sync controls on equipment you already own. Some receivers include adjustable audio delay or automatic lip-sync features; the Denon AVC-X6500H manual is one example, not evidence that a replacement is necessary or compatible with your setup. If you are evaluating another receiver, check its exact manual for these features and verify compatibility with your TV, source, ARC/eARC needs and gaming requirements before deciding.
