Arrow Video’s UK Hard Boiled Limited Edition 4K UHD is a strong choice for viewers who want the film in Dolby Vision and want a Cantonese Dolby Atmos option. TechRadar reviewer James Davidson praised its fine image detail, vivid color and spatially convincing action on the equipment he tested. His assessment is favorable, but the cooler-looking grade and the Atmos mix may not suit every viewer or system.
What the Arrow UK 4K edition includes
Arrow’s UK Limited Edition presents Hard Boiled at 2160p with Dolby Vision and HDR10 compatibility. Audio options listed for the package are Cantonese Dolby Atmos, original lossless Cantonese mono and English mono. The release material also lists newly translated English subtitles for the Cantonese tracks and English SDH subtitles for the English track. Its two discs comprise a 4K UHD feature-and-extras disc and a Blu-ray of additional extras. The physical package includes a reversible sleeve, foldout poster, collector’s booklet and six artcards. Arrow Video’s release information lists the package contents. Check the listing for the particular edition you intend to buy; physical extras should not be assumed to carry over to another package.

In his 28 August 2026 hands-on review, TechRadar’s James Davidson praised the disc’s refined textures and vivid color. He points to visible skin detail and neon signs, as well as the contrast between the dim jazz club and its lights. Those observations support a persuasive case for the 4K presentation, though they remain one reviewer’s judgment of the tested disc and display rather than an objective measurement of every setup.

There is also a grading difference to consider if you are choosing between the UK Arrow and US Shout! editions. AVForums describes Arrow’s UK grade as potentially cooler and bluer than Shout!’s US version, while treating preference as subjective. Does the Arrow disc have Dolby Atmos?
Yes. Arrow’s UK Limited Edition lists Cantonese Dolby Atmos alongside the original Cantonese mono and English mono options. In Davidson’s listening test, using a Samsung HW-Q990C 11.1.4-channel soundbar system, gunfire and ricochets moved across the rear channels with precise placement. He also praised the balance among the sound of casings, dialogue and score during action scenes. These are listening impressions on that specific system, not a promise of identical results on other equipment.

Davidson noted that some explosions did not always resonate through the system’s subwoofer, which he attributed to the older mix. If you prefer the original presentation or want to avoid relying on an Atmos setup, the listed Cantonese mono option is also available. AVForums notes that the Arrow Atmos option is an addition not present on the Shout! US release, so do not assume the US disc has the same audio features.

The key distinction established by the available comparison is that these are separate regional releases, with different image grades and audio options. Arrow’s UK disc offers Cantonese Atmos; AVForums describes Arrow’s grade as cooler and bluer than Shout!’s, a difference viewers may judge differently. The sources cited here do not establish that the packages have otherwise identical extras or physical contents, so compare the exact listings rather than treating either edition as a substitute in every respect.

Davidson’s report of detailed textures, vivid color and spatially effective action supports calling it a reference showcase as an evaluative judgment—not a universal benchmark or a claim that every setup will sound or look the same. The cooler, bluer grade may be a deciding factor for viewers comparing it with Shout!’s US release, and the Region B coding matters for players without compatible support.
