Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf Happo reports a CI run but screenshots are missing, first determine whether the job reached screenshot submission. A report or check can appear while CI is still building Storybook or uploading assets; after submission, use the report’s snap-request logs to find rendering, asset, timing, or network failures.
Trace the build through each stage
Work from the earliest stage that might have stopped. Happo’s CI flow can announce a run before setup is complete, so a visible report does not prove screenshot requests were sent. The distinction matters: setup and submission problems call for CI/configuration checks; submitted requests that fail call for snap-request and worker-log checks.

- CI preparation: Did the job install dependencies and build the Storybook or other tested target?
- Asset availability: Did it upload or otherwise make the required assets available to Happo?
- Request submission: Does the CI output show that the intended integration submitted screenshot requests?
- Worker capture: If requests were submitted, did they render successfully, and could they load the page and its assets?
Check the CI output around build, upload, and Happo invocation rather than treating the report landing page as confirmation that snapshots exist. Happo describes this separation in its account of how its CI flow works.

Check the project configuration and CI credentials
If there are no snap requests, verify the CLI invocation, configuration file, working directory, integration, and secrets. Happo’s repository example configures apiKey and apiSecret from HAPPO_API_KEY and HAPPO_API_SECRET in happo.config.ts. It documents running the CLI with npx happo and says it discovers configuration files in the project root.

- Confirm the CI job has both expected secrets, and that they are available to this job or branch.
- Confirm the job runs from the intended project root and discovers the expected configuration file.
- Check that the command and integration match the target you intend to capture.
- Do not print secret values in CI logs; check whether variables are present without exposing their contents.
Configuration and integration details can vary by project. Compare your setup with the Happo repository and the documentation for the integration you actually use.
Use the report logs to locate a failed or incomplete capture
When requests were submitted—or a specific component is missing—open the report’s logs page. Happo combines snap-request logs into a searchable timeline. Search for the component or request, review warnings and errors, then expand the relevant entry to inspect the full log. The logs can expose both explicit request errors and quieter causes such as a 404 image, a slow font, or asynchronous work that finished after the screenshot was taken.

The logs page is linked from comparison, report, and async-report views. Start with the affected request rather than reading the entire report chronologically. See Happo’s report-log guide.
Investigate missing assets and blocked hostnames
A page can render without some of its dependencies if a worker cannot reach an image, stylesheet, font, or other external resource. Happo announced a target-level allowedHostnames option on September 23, 2026. At that time it was off by default; Happo said it planned to block external requests by default in a future major version. These settings are version-sensitive, so inspect the exact package version and target configuration before changing them.

- Expand the affected snap request’s worker log and look near the bottom for the allowed and blocked hostname lists.
- Compare blocked hostnames with the hosts serving the assets that appear missing or delayed.
- If you use the pages integration, verify that the hostname of each tested page URL is allowed. Happo warns that otherwise the worker can capture an empty page.
- Change only the target setting needed for the expected hosts, then rerun the affected capture and inspect its logs.
Happo’s announcement, “Block HTTP requests to cut flake and lock down Happo workers”, describes the option and worker logs. Its examples include a vendor-reported customer case; that result is not a general guarantee of how much flakiness a hostname rule will remove.
Retry one screenshot only when the failure is isolated
For one apparently spurious snapshot, Happo’s Single Screenshot Retry can regenerate that snapshot from the report’s source page without rerunning the full suite. The announcement lists minimum versions for happo.io, happo-plugin-storybook, and happo-static, updated September 17, 2025. Check the current package documentation before relying on those prerequisites.

A successful retry can help recover an isolated result, but it does not establish that a recurring timing, asset, or network failure is fixed. For repeated failures, use the worker log to address the cause. See Happo’s Single Screenshot Retry announcement.

Match troubleshooting to your integration
Happo lists integrations for Storybook, Cypress, Playwright, and several CI providers, but the right setup checks depend on which combination your project uses. Start with the relevant integration’s configuration and the CI job that invokes it; do not apply a Storybook-specific fix to a pages, Cypress, or Playwright target without confirming it fits.

| Symptom | Likely stage | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| A report exists, but no screenshots appear | Preparation or submission may not have finished | Inspect CI output for Storybook build, asset upload, and actual Happo request submission. |
| No requests appear in the report | CLI, credentials, config discovery, or integration setup | Check secret availability, working directory, config file, command, and integration. |
| One component is missing or errors | That snap request or its page dependencies | Search the report logs for the component and expand its full worker log. |
| Images or fonts are missing, or text looks different | Asset loading or hostname restrictions | Inspect blocked-host lists and verify external asset hosts are allowed for the target. |
| A pages-integration capture is blank | Tested page host may be blocked | Check that the page URL hostname is allowed in the target configuration. |
| A retry passes, but later runs fail again | Intermittent underlying timing or request issue | Use the logs to diagnose the recurring cause instead of treating retries as a fix. |
When to contact Happo support
If the report logs and CI output do not identify the stopping point, contact Happo at [email protected]. Include the report link, affected component or snap request, CI output around setup and submission, and relevant worker-log lines. Remove secrets and sensitive data before sharing logs.
Or skip the browser setup
If your goal is a clean website screenshot rather than debugging a missing Happo snapshot, ScreenshotNeo offers a one-request screenshot API and an MCP server for AI agents. This is an alternative capture workflow, not a fix for a broken Happo CI integration.
One GET request returns an image or PDF; for example, save a WebP screenshot of a URL with cURL:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. Cookie banners are accepted and removed before the shot, along with known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; these cleanup steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.
